I think this is a milk chocolate molasses chip. might be dark chocolate. there were two but I ate one before realizing I'd forgotten to take a picture.

and day 2 we had a really lovely dark chocolate sea salt caramel. I'm not a giant fan of dark chocolate but this was really good.

day 1! They don't tell you what the candies are so i have a little treasure hunt to find out. this is a bordeaux candy, dark chocolate covering brown sugar buttercream and topped with sprinkles.

Josh Barro @jbarro • 7h Trump has spent 10 months sending the message that the govt does what he wants. Demolishing the East Wing was just an exclamation mark on that. So it shouldn't be surprising that Rs can't offload blame for the shutdown. If Trump wants the government open, why isn't it open?

it fascinates me how honey changes flavor and color depending on what the bees feed on. jar on the left is local to WA and doesn't specify source; jar on the right is fireweed honey from AK. Fireweed is my absolute favorite kind of honey but it's hard to find and expensive. But it's amazing.
two roughly equal sized jars of honey. the jar on the left is very dark in color and is from craic honey co, raw honey from the Yakima Valley. the jar on the right is very pale gold in color, it is fireweed honey from Stoked beekeeping co.

bex was smart and covered the hole in the middle with plastic before putting in batter and apples, then peeled it off before it went in the oven. I didn't lose anything to the center this time! 🍽️🍜

after it simmered for 2 hours I did a final salt test, added juice of 1 lemon, did one final taste test & salt adjustment & called it good. Pulled out the solids, saved the chicken, strained broth into container. Soup is chilling, tomorrow or Sun I'll skim the fat. 12qt stockpot = 6qt soup. 🍜🍽️

it's soupening! I'll let it simmer for an hour, long enough to cook the chicken, then taste test and adjust salt. it'll simmer another hour after that. 🍜🍽️
a stockpot full of soup ingredients that has just finished boiling. onion, carrots, a little celery, and chicken parts can be seen. on top float a few sprigs of fresh dill, a few peppercorns, and there's a bay leaf peeking out on the right side of the pot.

a little worried I filled the pot too full lol. that's a 12qt for reference. also it looks like a lot of salt, it isn't, and I'll be adding salt at 3 more points. the layering is critical to flavor, you will not get the same result if you add it all at the start or end.

a large stockpot full of soup ingredients. on top is a quartered onion and some celery and carrot peek out underneath but the chicken and peppercorns are hiding. there's also a generous amount of salt dumped on top of the onions, but water hasn't been added in yet and it will all dissolve. it's not really that much.
