- Monarchs tend to produce less and less dust as they get older, making wing injury and discomfort much more common. There are synthetic powders available for individuals who cannot produce sufficient dust on their own. (4/4)

- Their wings naturally produce dust, which keeps the wings soft and waterproof. Too much dust buildup can lead to discomfort and itchy scales, so preening is common among close family members, friends, and lovers. (3/4)

- At rest, the wings are flaccid, and either hang loosely from the back or can be wrapped around the shoulders or midsection (ideal for cooler temperatures, as the monarch can keep them under their clothes) (2/?)
