While camera-based speed and red light enforcement are great and speed governors will help stop the worst repeat offenders, what we really need is for the police to actually enforce basic traffic laws like “you have to actually stop at stop signs and red lights” and “your car needs license plates.”

Every journalist post: hey guys I know you think that we should have said something about the child trafficker who hung out with our boss and emailed with our coworkers, but you guys are making some real journalistphobic assumptions and forcing us to do emotional labor, please examine your attitude.

this is the future I'm afraid of for the left: the one where we regulate everything new just because it's new, while letting everything old continue
NJ Senate President Nick Scutari promised a semi-reasonable e-bike regulation bill. But S.4834 goes back to requiring registration, insurance and licensing for the most benign Class 1 e-bikes. #4834 #njleg

It just needs to be way easier to lose your license and your car for reckless driving, because a few months of major societal disruption 5 years ago taught people that driving in such a way that kills others or themselves is nbd

This is *extremely* embarrassing behavior lol. I genuinely am astounded you posted this publicly! I have worked for many companies and orgs in my time and I would *never* remotely defend them for a scandal I wasn't involved in, let alone one about literal child sexual abuse! It's just your employer!
As a former member of NYT’s finance team & the co-author of this story exposing the relationship between Epstein & Bill Gates as well as one on Epstein & JPMorgan, I am really frustrated to see people claiming that NYT sat on publishable info about Trump and Epstein 🧵 www.nytimes.com/2019/10/12/b...

Rape is the distillation of the far-right worldview that Trump embodies: a gleefully sadistic act of domination carried out as fulfillment of a supposedly natural hierarchy. It would be weird if Trump wasn’t a rapist, given his ideological commitments—which is before you get to all the accusations.
i mean c’mon. the president’s best friend was the most notorious pedo in the country’s history who ran a massive child trafficking ring. every bit of circumstantial evidence we have says that trump was a participant. if this were a criminal trial we’d have enough evidence to compel a plea deal.

it's a combination of a couple different things:

-social science data gen. processes genuinely are noisy and messy in ways that physical sciences aren't
-the actual problem is very hard
-lots of research is done by people from research is not their real vocation
-many incentives to be dishonest
Education seems like the domain where the low standards of social science research have had the most consequence. Every single robust finding would be actionable.

Mamdani should recognize that his election shows that he is wrong on the issues and should abandon his policies and preferences for a bland Park Slope technocratic corporatism.

I don't think it's a good issue and I don't think Dems should waste time/capital on it, but (as a gun guy) if you really want to do gun regulation I promise you could get some common sense stuff passed in return for deregulating suppressors
gonna reiterate a hobbyhorse of mine: 'let the ATF keep electronic records' is a good fight to pick on guns. it doesn't impact normie gun owners at all, it's an insane bit of GOP mandated dysfunction in government, and it's being "tough on crime" in a way that actually matters
