Stealing in general, yes. Larceny could get you in Kingston Penitentiary.

Cow (and horse and sheep, etc) stealing itself was a serious crime which was tried at a higher court along with offences like larceny and murder so I'm surprised this didn't go further up the courts. The fine was hefty, though!

Ha, they're actually quite familiar to me. I've seen them in the records quite a bit getting into trouble. Catherine Cogan especially.
