I'd love to read that ! I once read, in passing, about some licensing thing wherein a lot of the GE radios weren't actually made by GE itself, but other companies allowed to use their branding. A pretty unique set up. Wish I remember more.

With the faux wood trim ? I remember them being made by GE. My parents still have theirs c. 85

I've always said, if people actually followed the principles of "ethical consumerism "and "responsible consumption" Capitalists talk about, the whole thing falls. This might be the beginning of that. then again, a bailout using public money (for the millionth time) and govt austerity will save us !

I spent a fair bit of time in rural central Ontario. Things did truly come a bit later there. For the most part though, 92 , yeah. But a big change in government and the optimism that came with it in 93 in Canada was still a bit of a demarcation point.

My brother began his undergrad in '90. Some small but key differences to my experience starting in 97 (I got into it older but not wiser than him)

Interesting. I've thought about this stuff a fair bit. Started secondary school (Canada) in '89. The 80s started around 83 (Up to 2 years later in some places), the 90s? Summer 92. The Fall of 93 in some respects. 88-91 (esp 89/90) was truly a strange time culturally and economically.
