My bar for better time management this jam was so low, it was just "don't spend 40 straight hours coding without sleep". We managed it somehow.

For people who know the lore...WHAT EVEN ARE THESE THINGS ON PALUTENA'S BELT AND WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OF THEM?

Managing a project's scope for the allotted time as well as how to temper expectations and pivot plans early should something just not be worth the time to stress over when other things are more important to the final product.

This week's discussion question: What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from game jams?

Needless to say the springtails I ordered for our new bioactive enclosure did not survive and I'm livid.

Cardboard is BREATHABLE. Punching a HOLE in CARDBOARD is not helping ensure the animals arrive safe and sound. NEITHER IS TRANSPORTING THE BOX UPSIDE DOWN OR ON ITS SIDE WHEN THERE'S A LIVE ANIMAL STICKER SHOWING YOU WHICH WAY IS UP.
borderbreakers.art
To the UPS driver who has been punching holes in boxes marked with LIVE animals. STOP. You do not know what is inside and damaging the packaging puts their lives at risk. Lots of shipped animals like reptiles could DIE if holes in their boxes end up damaging their containers OR any heat packs.

Thanks for letting us babysit your table and get a sense for what it might be like when we eventually get into the event as artists ourselves!

If you can stop by Odawara on your way between Tokyo and Kyoto we really enjoyed visiting the castle there and learning its history.

We hope you have an amazing trip!

If you can only do one tower, we recommend the Skytree over Tokyo tower. It has a nice mall at its base and is easier to get to off public transit.

Senso-ji temple was nice but I hear it gets crowded in the fall during leaf watching season.

Our favorite ramen spot was Ichigaku in Shinjuku. Ask for baby spice if you like a kick but not melt your face off hot.

Also go to the fire fighter museum nearby. It's free and very good.

The Shinjuku gyoen national garden nearby is also great and cheap entry. We spent a whole day there.

Have good shoes. You will walk a lot.

Keep cash on you. Most hotels have cash exchange machines.

Lots of hole in the wall ramen places only take cash and use vending machines to place your order.

Lots of nicer restaurants require reservations and their websites won't accept US or Canadian phone numbers so just be aware of that.

Breakfast can be tricky. Most places aren't open early so you may need to rely more on convenience stores.

If you like chai, try hojicha.

Also watch Abroad in Japan's vids as they have a lot of helpful information on how to travel respectfully. Japan is overall pretty safe but there are two more common crimes that target expats and foreigners. If a little unassuming lady asks you to go pray at a shrine with her, say no. It's a trap.
