My lab at Red Butte Garden is just starting up a tissue culture lab. Kevin Alison (Catalina conservancy) and I are trying to start up a tissue culture working group that would meet every month and discuss our work and help each other out. Let me know if you know anyone that may be interested.

Also interesting to note, these seeds are 7 years old and were not in the seed bank. They sat for 7 years at room temp in an envelope and are still germinating which may say something about their persistence in the soil seed bank.

So far it’s looking like nick and 24 hour soak was the winner but I got germination in the straight nick and scarification treatments as well.

Grow little cactus grow! Having some success germinating the endangered Sclerocactus wrightiae. It’s a notoriously difficult genus to germinate.

It turns out the most important part of this is that it will become a highway. That means they could potentially pave the entire road. Naming it after the Cheeto is just an extra slap in the face.
