So many great talks on the last couple days of #SEBconference! It was great to hear from @chris-on-fish.bsky.social and @bradhowell.bsky.social about their work at Trent, as well as my #DeakinMarine friends @gradito.bsky.social on work from her M.S. and Alex Berry on his PhD research 👏

Thank you @sebiology.bsky.social for having me at this year’s #SEBconference in Antwerp, Belgium. Today’s Open Animal session was a full house despite being a Friday morning!

What are the effects of tagging on fishes? 🐟

Our review + meta-analysis explores intracoelomic tagging effects in fishes. We summarize the existing literature and examine the 2% rule using evidence from a broad representation of all published studies.

Just came across this method from 1970: researchers used a periscope-like device frozen into the ice to watch fish under the surface. Such a clever way to study winter ecosystems! 🐟❄️ From Magnuson & Karlen (1970).

Had a great time today with Leah Howitt sharing some of the science we do at Queens University Biological Station. Missing from our booth is Mitchell Shorgan!

Congratulations to the 2023 Larkin Award Runner-up (PhD Level) Erin Stewart!

Erin’s PhD w/ Dr. Raby and Dr. Wilson @TrentUniversity investigates physiological traits that influence the intraspecific thermal tolerances of wild #BrookTrout populations #SalvelinusFontinalis
