Pretty cool when @Cilium.io shows up on the KubeCon keynote stage without me even knowing about it beforehand. Powering Airbnb's dataplane

Closing remarks for my third and final CiliumCon as co-chair. A little bittersweet, but one of the things I love about open source is giving other people the opportunity to grow. I'll be in Amsterdam but not as co-chair 🥲

Second KubeCon talk ✅

Pretty easy this time just doing the opening of CiliumCon with Hemanth Malla. Updates from the latest release, what's happening at KubeCon, and a sneak peak of what is coming next. Find all the details inside

First talk of KubeCon ✅

Liz Rice, Joe Stringer, and I lead a discussion on what projects should think about when trying to write an effective AI policy. Slides are lights on details, but be sure to catch the full recording with all the conversations when it comes out

Who knew that my journey to KubeCon Atlanta would start in Berlin at Brandenburg Tor? Who am I going to see there?

eBPF Track schedule for Linux Plumbers Conference is out now covering everything from BPF signing to AI flame graphs to embedded eBPF

I'll be giving a talk about what the eBPF Foundation has been up to. Ping me if you want to share some sushi there 🇯🇵

The eBPF Devroom at FOSDEM will return in 2026! 🐝

After a overflowing room in 2025, we'll be back next winter for more buzz! FOSDEM will take place in Brussels, Belgium, on 31 January - 1 February 2026 (fosdem.org). Call for Proposals coming soon ✍

Working on the eBPF Foundation, I found two eBPF acquisitions I missed earlier this year both in security 🔐

For vendors, eBPF offers a single, programmable layer for threat detection, observability, and enforcement across workloads. I haven't seen any company going against this strategic shift 🐝

eBPF continues to reshape the security landscape. Startups are emerging almost weekly with eBPF at their core, while established vendors are re-architecting entire product lines around it 🐝

Ant Group's case study with the eBPF Foundation is another strong validation

My transformation into a Linux kernel hacker continues, this time with a talk at Linux Plumbers Conference

I'll be talking about the role the eBPF Foundation is playing in the ecosystem, the progress we have made so far, and get feedback on where we should go next

eBPF Foundation has a new website to keep up with the pace of what we are doing:

100k to academic research
Launch of inaugural Community & Advocacy Fellowship Program
SOWs to improve eBPF selftests and hardware architecture support
Sponsoring LPC to bring developers together
6 case studies

Kubernetes networking has gone from “how do we get pods talking?” to “how do we orchestrate distributed AI pipelines across thousands of GPUs with microsecond latency?” And the answer, at least for GKE, is Cilium and eBPF 🐝

For its academic research grants, eBPF Foundation received 27 proposals from 23 universities, ranging from improving verifier safety guarantees to enabling new use cases where eBPF can make a difference.

Two proposals will each receive a $50,000 research grant

or my latest LFX mentorship, I worked with Oluchi Nwenyi to develop technical outcome pages for the Cilium project.

They cover Zero Trust Networking, Network Automation, Cost and Carbon Savings, Multi-Cloud Connectivity, Tool Consolidation and demonstrate to end users to value of using Cilium.

Looking forward to working with Peace Sandy for the next Cilium LFX Mentorship!

We are going to look for ways to improve the SEO, AEO, and AIO for cilium.io

Load balancers always felt like an odd fit in the cloud native world because they sit outside the platform, scale by swapping in bigger boxes, and automation means duct-taping scripts on top.

The Isovalent Load Balancer flips that model.

The kernel has become the most valuable observability real estate and everyone wants a piece of it. F5 announced it’s acquiring MantisNet, an observability company built around eBPF-powered telemetry

Each deal shows that the real battleground will be in the kernel

eBPF is coming to transform the original networks...telecommunications ☎️

Rakuten hit the typical roadblocks with their old monitoring systems a flood of false positives, couldn't keep up with dynamic network changes, and a lack of real-time insights. Enter eBPF 🐝

~60% higher throughput. ~38% lower average latency.

Those are the numbers from a 5G Core testbed running on Kubernetes, comparing traditional socket-based communication with a new eBPF-based implementation called Shared Socket.

After 7.5 years, we finally updated the functionality overview in the @cilium.io README 😅

A lot has changed in that time, but the overall vision of the project is still very consistent. We just have a more articulate way to say it now 😀
