It’s just so grim. It was always sort of expected of business majors back when I was in college but other people were there at least in part because we wanted to be and schools at least pretended to care about growth and intellectual rigor.

But these are also kids who aren’t asked to read a novel until college and weren’t even taught to read at all effectively in many cases. I don’t know how to fix a huge population of people with no attachment to their own intellectual development.

This is also a big part of why for years people who teach gen ed humanities classes have complained about students who bitch that it’s a waste of their time. If the only purpose you can conceive of for education is a prelude to a job you don’t want and you’re not sure will exist soon, why bother?

It drives me especially crazy with white/off-white and very dark navy/black. I’m not going to be able to reliably tell the difference on my phone/computer, I need them to tell me!

That would be the dream! At a minimum stop calling off-white like “marshmallow” and shit so I can’t tell if something is actually white or not.
