The reason OSRS can thrive is that the current devs are passionate, built up trust with the players. And stare down a player base that would rather burn the game to the ground than let the devs do so.

What do you mean you want me to trust you not to montetize ways to skip the grind? Jagex had to rebuild that trust up over years and years after rs3.

If you want my advice, I'd recommend giving f2p a try, and do some quests, see if you can make it through Dragon Slayer. If you like(d) it, give p2p a go.
