One of the perks of dating @siegefault.bsky.social is that when I ask what to wear to a conference I get answers like: "Well as a _character artist_ I think you should wear white and light colors to represent the healing and approachability of the brand you're representing"
🤯

Listen I'm not saying I always pushed my heat limit buttttttt my plan B was always:
Hug enemy
Dismount
Run toward the cameras with a dramatic fiery explosion behind me

Yes, charities! But also other nonprofit orgs doing education, outreach, diversity, raising awareness for a cause, social activities/events...anything counts as long as they're a registered nonprofit and have to do with gaming haha. Example I have OrcaCon on my list, a nonprofit gaming con!

HEY. YOU.
Tell me the name of your favorite ✨gaming-related nonprofits.✨
I'm building a directory and I would LOVE to crowdsource.

I'll be wearing this title as a badge of honor for the rest of my life. Thank you @theangryoptimist.bsky.social 🖤

Shout out to that one time the NSA tried to recruit me as a contract negotiator but had to cancel the interview because I wouldn't have passed security clearance (🌿)

Maybe the reason I liked soccer but not running as a youth was the ADHD:
Running in a circle? BORING
Playing a real-time strategy game? ✅✅✅

Good morning to everyone except my cat who just projectile vomited from on top of the kitchen table then made me chase him through the house to clean him up 🥴

He was making a comment about how I make friends veryyyy easily. We can bond over one thing and I'll be like "hello what's your discord" 😂 (literally happened this morning)

P.S. you can find more of Keith Thompson's work here: www.keiththompsonart.com

He's got some fun concept art credits including Crimson Peak and the newest Frankenstein 👀

His art has also appeared in Numenera by @montecookgames.com (one of my faves, I love a small world moment)

Anyway, this tale brought to you by a social media memory of my mom cosplaying an air marshal from Leviathan by @scottwesterfeld.bsky.social at her very first GenCon. 💙📚

(Don't be fooled - I got *her* into these hobbies, not the other way around!!)
A screenshot from a Facebook memory. The name and profile pic are cut off but the date reads Sep 1, 2016. The caption says: "Very proud of my mom's Leviathan costume at GenCon 2016. She's an air marshal. :)" The attached picture is a 2 column layout - on the left is a woman in her 50s wearing a long-line double-breasted military jacket with gold striped cuffs, black slacks, and black boots. On the right is a picture of a page from the Manual of Aeronautics by Scott Westerfeld, showing the illustration the woman's costume is based on.

Some of the designs originated with Keith, and Scott was so impressed as a writer that he had to incorporate them into the setting. Other ideas originated with Scott, and Keith was able to build on them in ways that only a visual artist could. Creative collaboration at its finest!!

[STORY + BOOK LORE] in 2016, my mom and I met @scottwesterfeld.bsky.social at GenCon. I remember him talking about working with Keith Thompson (the illustrator) - a lot of back and forth where they were each pushing the other to go deeper in historical accuracy/inspo.

🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 don't @ me I'll start posting library pics

Same! That definitely did NOT happen and quite frankly I am miffed that the world did not uphold that expectation.

Raise your hand if you, too, grew up very concerned you'd fall into quicksand 🙋

I am now, at 33.5 years old, realizing that I am "the friend who has LORE."

I really do pull some wild experiences and one-line stories out of my ass, and all of it is true.

Thinking back on my early media crushes, they were almost all women/girls - going back to Sailor Jupiter in 1995.
Is that because media wasn't written for the "female gaze" (and gay people weren't real) so all the characters designed to be attractive were women? Like, was it ME or the media here??
