Holocaust denial (an aggressively antisemitic falsehood) and thinking Israel is a colonial state (objectively correct) given equal weight in assessing antisemitism
"A respondent falls into this category if they (1) self-identify as both racist and antisemitic and express Holocaust denial or describe Israel as a colonial state, or (2) do not self-identify that way but nevertheless hold both of those extreme positions."

State's Attorney Burke ended the office’s policy of both keeping and disclosing a list of police officers who have a history of lying in court and committing misconduct. This signals to cops they will not be held accountable by the chief law enforcement officer of Cook County.

Historian of eugenics here. I don't normally like to retweet bad arguments, but this is such a fundamental misunderstanding of eugenics, I think it's important to point out. I don't have time to debunk all of the ways this is inaccurate, but I'll highlight a few things and then recommend some books🧵

More to the point, you had an interview in the Economist less than a fortnight after the Budget came out and the big takeaways are apparently you talking about how great one of your opponents is, and how scared you are of the other. How are you this shit at political communication.
“If there is a Conservative government, I can sleep at night.” A right-wing populist Reform UK government, however, “is a different proposition”.

All of the money that goes into the benefit system is spent by the people that receive it so it actually boosts the economy. The money given to billionaires is hoarded often outside of the country.

Just something to think about while you’re spouting drivel about people on benefits and immigrants.

The WI has been trans inclusive since the 70s, before I was born. Do you see who in this scenario was innocently minding their own business, coming to their own arrangements locally? Do you see who is forcefully imposing themselves and their demands upon others, via threats.

This element of the situation is so maddening because it adds this air of unreality to the transphobes statements - and yet they are taken totally seriously by our press and much of our political class. Very obviously people were muddling making accommodations and no great social crisis was caused!

2) Blaming smartphones for all ills instead of tackling the fact that Wes and his right wing cronies have helped turn the UK into politically a toxic shithole.
This is basically going to be "Get off your phone and into work" isn't it?

Wes Streeting orders review of mental health diagnoses as benefit claims soar
Health secretary has asked experts to investigate whether normal feelings have become ‘over-pathologised’ The health secretary, Wes Streeting, has ordered a clinical review of the diagnosis of mental health conditions, according to reports. Streeting is understood to be concerned about a sharp rise in the number of people making sickness benefits claims because of diagnoses for mental illness, autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the Times reported. He has asked leading experts to investigate whether normal feelings have become “over-pathologised”, the newspaper said, as he seeks to grapple with the 4.4 million working-age people now claiming sickness or incapacity benefit. The figure has risen by 1.2 million since 2019, while the number of 16 to 34-year-olds off work with long-term sickness because of a mental health condition is said to have grown rapidly in the same period. Streeting told the Times he knew from “personal experience how devastating it can be for people who face poor mental health, have ADHD or autism and can’t get a diagnosis or the right support”. He added: “I also know, from speaking to clinicians, how the diagnosis of these conditions is sharply rising. “We must look at this through a strictly clinical lens to get an evidence-based understanding of what we know, what we don’t know, and what these patterns tell us about our mental health system, autism and ADHD services. “That’s the only way we can ensure everyone gets timely access to accurate diagnosis and effective support.” The review, which is expected to be launched on Thursday, is set to be led by Prof Peter Fonagy, a clinical psychologist at University College London specialising in child mental health, with Sir Simon Wessely, a former president of the Royal College of Psychiatry, acting as vice-chair. Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

Being angry at the Womens Institute or Girl Guides is like being mad at someone for being taken hostage and complying with the guy with the gun.
