Oh my days; I’m so sorry, I’d don’t mean to insinuate *no* cookbooks! I meant: blindly following someone else’s recipe, and passing it off as your own creativity.

My general point being: the extent to which blindly copying without creative input is “not ok” is proportional to operator skill.
November 29, 2025 at 7:42 AM
Yeah, I see the same thing in myself. I’d be chill & unchill in the scenarios you mention; but I’m seeing unwritten context in those situations that explains my change of chill: the perceived skill of the operator.

*First time* coding? Copy! Learn ☺️
*Professional* chef? Blindly following recipes‽ 🫤

I think I see these as different levels of use though; if I saw a professional chef using an off-the shelf recipe in their restaurant, I’d cringe. If I see someone using a “learn to draw an owl” book to learn to draw, no cringe.

Is the difference you’re seeing in the user’s (perceived) intentions?

Ha! It works — the post above has a zero length tag facet!

I wonder if any Bluesky front ends would be interested in the idea of persistent tags/personas…
November 27, 2025 at 6:10 PM
Ahh yeah; like an ontology of interests, and a taxonomy that lets you flag interest of a given branch?

I know Wikipedia works hard on this (how do you categorise *everything*‽) so perhaps it could be as simple as attaching relevant Wikipedia URLs as tags behind the scenes?
November 27, 2025 at 5:45 PM
It’d be like “content warning”, but for enticing the like-minded.

With this I could have personas too; some followers may love my posts on travel, but not care for software chat. This could help filter *and* find.

Feeds get extra signal to curate with. It fosters loose communities.

Came here to say this; it’s great.
November 27, 2025 at 1:51 PM
Oh damn; that’d definitely explain it…

As soon as @tangled.org supports package hosting (npm, containers, etc), and I can replicate my Knot, I think I’ll be migrating all my stuff.
November 27, 2025 at 11:15 AM
If any of this sounds fun, get in touch! I’ll write more about it if there’s interest.

My plan is for it to work as a local-first web app & connected directly to your opponents’ PDS websocket, so you can play in realtime, but also drop to async when one of you is busy.

The self-nerdsniping I’ve been doing is for the card game I’d do after that: “Shithead”.

In it, the first player is the one with the lowest card, and all of a sudden we’re in Yao’s Millionaire Problem territory. I’ve been loving learning about Garbled Circuits & getting back into Boolean logic 🤩
November 27, 2025 at 9:52 AM
That only needs 1 mutually agreed random bit (who goes first), but the real fun will be my first card game. (Probably Yaniv? Maybe Cribbage — both family faves)

This has a more complex Mental Poker algo,m. I’m both hoping to keep record size low & not write too much crypto myself…

Awesome! I got over excited and made a custom element too!

tangled.org/strings/did:...

Once you've included this you can `` anywhere you like.
November 26, 2025 at 3:58 PM
This looks super interesting! Is it available anywhere that isn’t substack?
November 26, 2025 at 7:09 AM
😂 I mean, how many surnames like this do you know?
November 25, 2025 at 9:07 PM
I doubt it’d happen, but it’d be fun to get people to declare their “vibes” every 5 mins on here (pick from 7 emoji?)

Aggregate & you get feedback on the vibes that people had when they saw your posts (whether or not your stuff influenced those vibes directly).

Human mood around you! #atprotoidea
