Been messing around with FlatPixel recently, building a library of animations for platformer use. I feel like most 3D animation libraries don't cover this use case well, as being readable from the side profile isn't all that common for 3D.

Just published my first devlog on #Godscrown, which includes all of the features I have planned for the next major update, and some thoughts about other features later on! I'm real excited about the next update, it's been a challenge but things are going smoothly so far!
Post-Jam Planning
After the Jam I took some time to think over the development of Godscrown, and review the responses I got to it. I’m mostly focused on the negative/constructive responses, as I feel there’s more t...

Hey #PitchYaGame! I'm working on #Godscrown, a cosmic horror card game where you use luck and trickery to be the last player at the table!

I plan on adding multiplayer and deckbuilding features soon, as well as some balance and mechanics changes!

Hey! Thinking about making a little free claw machine game with pixel art from different artists (16x16 or 8x8). Just checking if you'd be interested in contributing? Everyone gets credited, just a fun side project. No pressure! #pixelart

Really interesting question and great responses, mine's in there somewhere but it's absolutely something I need to spend more time thinking about. Love stuff like this!
Weigh in nerds!

Do you find it helpful to discuss "player fantasies"? Does the term fill you with disgust? Do you have a good handle on what it means?
I am writing something about "fulfilling player fantasies" in games. I would appreciate any thoughts people have on the subject (positive or negative - is this a valuable concept?), talks or papers discussing or popularizing this sort of rhetoric, etc etc

Day 2 of reworking Godscrown for networking. I've got card drawing functional, and I've started to lay out the game to allow for translations and lore dumps. Also, 5-card-hands and a better player info display!

This multiplayer stuff is easy actually! Got through the initial steps, basically just setting up the two players with their role.

Gonna tackle refactoring gameplay since I have to, but I've got some nicer ways to code up tutorials and achievements that I want to make sure work.

Time to pull a game developer classic and see what it'd be like to build multiplayer in after the whole game is done

I just realized this dev has like, way less followers than they deserve? Great tips here about line2D animations in godot and a beautiful cozy game going on too! Worth keeping an eye on!
I messed up. Launched page during autumn sale, missed Next Fest, got all assets wrong. But watching my tiny diver work melts all the stress away. Still love making it.

Finally steam page is live. Mind testing the wishlist button for me?🥺

One of the most common thoughts about Godscrown I've gotten is that players want to feel it's less based on luck.

This is tricky to me as it's a card game.

Luck of the draw and knowing what risks you're willing to take is kind of the whole deal. This feels like an unsolvable problem.

Hell of a time to have lost my job, applied for SNAP and the card has never got any funds in it. I applied in august. Haven't got any information about health insurance also despite applying for that as well

Thankfully, I still have some savings, but thanksgiving is probably going to be cancelled.

Godscrown was rated #1 overall in the Cosmic Horrors Jam IV!

I'm doing my absolute best not to let this go to my head but the prize is bragging rights so my head will be inflated forever now.

I wanna thank everyone who playtested it as I was building it!

Pretty cool place! It has made it into my constantly open tab list. Which isn't long! Like, three tabs tops. I'm like you heathens with hundreds of tabs.
The internet is worse than before, but it doesn't have to be. I chose to lead by example and made a forum I would want to use. We've got signatures, we've got gifs, we've got chatrooms, we've got a zero tolerance policy for bigotry.

And if we're very lucky, we've got you.

During the darkest times of my life, video games, and other forms of media, gave me hope for a better tomorrow.

Is it me or is gamedev Youtube full of negativity these days? It feels like yesterday's advice is now something everyone has a problem with.

Don't start with big games, don't start with small games, don't prototype, don't start a devlog, don't do your dream game, don't even think about dream games.

Every time I see a game release with AI art, story, or code, it's an instant ignore for me. I can't imagine putting a game out there proudly without putting the time and care to actually put the effort into it. It's wild to me that big companies are chasing this like it's a good idea.

A small rant🧵

I want to design more games but can I skip the part where I have to develop it and just get to the playing it part next time?
October 24, 2025 at 1:13 AM
With a little less than 2 hours to go, my team completed #CosmicHorrorsJam! #Godscrown hits 1.0 with music, sound effects, achievements, and unlockable characters!

This game has been a blast to develop. 2 Weeks for a game jam seems to be the sweet spot for me, enough time to take breaks and polish!

I really like the idea of designing with core pillars that guide design to specific feelings or experiences. It helps cut away some of the scope creep, and ensures the mechanics and theme fit the goal. I don't always write them out if there's just one (ex. a game jam theme) but it's helpful.
What's your number one personal game design principle? And even better - does it have a cool name?
