Husband, father, natural philosopher, and now grey child of the Pacific Coast. My old man once said that civilization ends east of US-395, and I am grateful he is no longer alive to see just how true that statement was.
It's not like they are going to publicly state they are Imperialist warmongers.

The Kremlin blatantly lies. It always has, and the current regime is not an exception to this rule.

The US never made such a promise.

Instead, in 1990, the US and USSR signed the Paris Charter, which enshrined the Helsinki Final Act as their central security agreement.

The HFA contains the OPPOSITE promise, and it's in writing too!

Russia reaffirmed the HFA in 1995, btw.

NATO is a defensive alliance created in response to Russian aggression.

New countries continue to seek membership due to continued Russian aggression.

Russia is the only recruiter NATO has ever had, or needed.

What did the Russian Federation agree to when it reaffirmed the Helsinki Final Act in 1995?

How about when the RF signed the Russian-Ukrainian Friendship Treaty, which included added endorsement of the Helsinki Final Act in 1997?

As for China, how much is clean air and lower chances of lung cancer, emphyzema, etc. worth to you?

Today's AQI scores for a collection of Chinese cities and the NYC metro area, for comparison.

(My metro area is San Francisco, which is cleaner than both, btw)

Yes, NATO was founded in response to Russian aggression (i.e. Berlin 1948, Prague 1948) and has been expanding in response to further Russian aggression ever since.

Russia is the best and only recruiter NATO has ever needed.

Yep, she is a leftist so focused on anti-Americanism that she fails to recognize other countries, such as Russia, have their own agency and are therefore responsible for their own actions.

Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014 when Ukraine was a neutral country constitutionally barred from joining NATO.

The Mariupol Theater was well known to include a civilian bomb shelter in the basement.

It had "CHILDREN" in Russian painted meters high on both sides.

Russian bombed it, murdering 600+ women and children, then tried to cover up their crimes.

The real promises made by the US and USSR in 1990 were put to writing in the German Reunification Treaty and the Paris Charter of 1990.

When it comes to promises for non-Germans, you want the Paris Charter, which repeatedly invokes the Helsinki Final Act:

The West never promised to block countries east of Germany from joining NATO.

They promised not to extend non-German NATO into eastern Germany, as may be seen by actually reading the two agreements signed by the USSR and the US in 1990.

Agreements endorsing the Helsinki Final Act, in particular:

We had this poster up on the doorway to the student writing lounge in a university chemistry department.

I one time pointed out to my chairman, that maybe using a work product of da Vinci as an example of "mediocrity" was setting the bar a tad high?

He laughed, and left it up.
