If you want to know the first usage of a word, OED is a serious choice!
December 1, 2025 at 4:05 PM
Wait...the OED says 1877, and she still writes that its first use is 1906?

While scare quoting Milan?

What a fool.

I tend to get stuck fighting with people I should block sometimes, but I made a rule about misspelling my name was an instablock. It has saved me from myself a few times.

Even if they did have drugs and you can prove they wanted to shoot up preschoolers with heroine, the penalty isn't death.

It's dark by 4:30. The sun doesnt really hit high in the sky when it can be bothered to break through the clouds.

We got at least half a foot of snow, and it's going to deep freeze next week.

It's still autumn!!!

Tectonic plates?

It's ridiculous. "America" in "thr United States of America" refers to the country AMERICA.

The song "America the beautiful " isn't about the Western Hemisphere.

Knock us for lack of originality, but the country is America. USA.
November 29, 2025 at 3:33 PM
It IS the name of our country!!!

It always has been. If you didn't like it, you should have pitched a fit at our founding.
November 28, 2025 at 11:39 PM
No, apparently they get to use the last part of their country's name as shorthand.

We can't use our country's name b/c it's the last part of 2 continental names.
November 28, 2025 at 11:35 PM
Im sure I would have preferred your brew. I just meant americano is a common enough term that a national chain uses it
November 28, 2025 at 11:28 PM
It's the name of our COUNTRY.

And if you think Americans aren't perfectly happy to steal stuff and keep it...it might explain a lot

I always loved spinach b/c my mom can cook.

Imagine my utter dismay at my high school b/f's house when a black glob of boiled, formerly frozen, spinach was spooned onto my plate.

I didn't know what it was!!!
November 28, 2025 at 12:10 AM
I use that when I'm trying to meet text limits.

The name of our country is "The United States of America"

America the country as distinct from North/South America the continents isn't that difficult to comprehend.
November 28, 2025 at 12:05 AM
No, but we do think you're insufferable.
November 28, 2025 at 12:02 AM
What American continent?

The North one or the South one?
November 27, 2025 at 11:59 PM
Starbucks absolutely has americanos. So do many restaurants, especially breakfast/brunch places
November 27, 2025 at 11:57 PM
JFC. The name of our country is "THE UNITED STATES OF ***AMERICA***.

The continents are not "America"...they are Nort and South America.

My college kid got me one months ago. They handed out hundreds at NoKings.

I'm thankful for my fellow Chicagoans.
