With holidays, it's "think of the productivity loss" as if that should define our choices. What define our lifestyle is our connection with our amazing whenua, time with friends and whānau.

The neoliberal ideal of a marketised society is everywhere when you look.

For example we are being told about all the jobs that AI will replace. We have mistaken the role that work has for people with the idea that it will allow companies to do more with less and hoard ever greater profits.

Worldwide mortality experience since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2024) shows excess deaths over that period in almost every country measured. Australia (+6%) was below average, and New Zealand (+0.1%) the lowest we measured.

Likewise, differentiated needs mean that "one size does not fit all". The same model of care may deliver different quality outcomes.

It depends on how well those models are aligned to the needs of the population they serve.

Need different perspectives to understand this and enact change.
