and i suppose light is also blinding when there's too much of it, so canonically light and dark are still symmetrical in a way I hadn't really thought about; it's just that darkness in the colloquial sense (lack of Light and Dark) and excessive/blinding Darkness happen to look similar

I have to wonder whether "light" sources in the Dark Worlds are emitting darkness to illuminate things?
or maybe the light/darkness perceived all falls under the umbrella of the Darker Dark, so changes in brightness are more metaphorical or magic-based in these places rather than literal
