Redd managed to roll 2 nat 1 attacks, and 2 rather more successful attacks, but the party prevailed (without any fudged dice rolls) and everyone had a blast.

Rivals of Waterdeep ended before the Bluesky exodus, but thanks to their giveaway, I had a full library of D&D Beyond resources

Then Redd, the Red Wyrmling, crashed through the ceiling of the inn, ready to claw every piece of treasure from the party.

Our shy cleric cast guiding bolt and rolled a Nat 20, melting off a full 1/3 of Redd's health, and the fight was strongly in the party's favor from there.

In the first combat, only three of the kids fought. The fourth, a cleric, sat paralyzed in fear, though she did use dancing lights to distract the dragonshield.

We let the kids level up after that fight because it was a fairly high challenge for level 1 characters, and the innkeepers healed them

The kids had a chance to explore the inn a bit at first (and one of them immediately tried to steal horses from the stables), learning a bit about the battle with the red dragon before a kobold dragonshield burst into the inn demanding tribute for his master, Redd the Wicked. The monk punched him

It was a simple campaign. Travelers find themselves at The Raven and Rose, an inn built by a retired pair of adventurers, Raven and Rose Underthorn, who wanted to settle down together after defeating a red dragon terrorizing the area.
