At over 2M a car the cost seems insanely high for a midlife refurbishment

Railexco does not have that large of a fleet

I just don’t care and opening that door for pax means freight is going to try and I do not trust class 1s. The labor costs are small even for 2 person crews
Caltrain cut their planned growth to 6tph to make themselves look better financially but now their 2/4tph service is partially limiting them

Level boarding and a 3tph off peak 6tph peak timetable (peak adds limited stop service) would be extremely useful
Driverless is not legally an option for any mainline project. It’s not just fed regs but CPUC who won’t allow it

Yes there isn’t and what’s likely to come isn’t substantial
Yeah the bridges are toast which is a classic SP move. Sell off the line as it needs major civil works

BLW units are going to need upgraded brakes and I wouldn’t be surprised if CAHSR does the same in part so they can though run.
Siemens AP220 basically has the CAHSR order and got the BLW

Except for the whole don’t exceed (unless terrain requires) average grades above 2.5% for 10km or 3.5% for 6km which will promptly get ignored by consultants and they’ll take it as a hard limit

It was an option that would have required justification and even then for the major passes was unlikely to be allowed.

They seem to admit even on a longer bridge E-50 is likely overkill but went with it anyways

E-80 loading isn’t needed for freight it’s just the lazy option for class 1s. Probably makes sense here if they use standard precasts. E-60-72 is probably plenty and should be just fine to move everything short of an extra heavy 6 axle unit. The north bay bridge crossing had a pax train around E-50

There are and they want to over design the bridges to hold a significantly higher weight than needed.
Given the cost I’d like to see 15 min service with BEMUs
November 11, 2025 at 7:31 AM
I'd like to see it at 10% but I'd take 15% (200M or 300M)
A case where staff are badly needed.

It's like saying that you are planning for a budget were things will necessarily go very wrong because you, project owner, are 100% sure that you will be unable to deploy any organizational or design measure to avoid costs to escalate out of control.

This though mirrors the issues found at other smaller to mid size CSUs where the public transit has gotten cut significantly as enrollment is down.

CSUEB really should have coordinated this with AC transit
The old bus routes weren’t perfect as they were open to employees and students only along with using large cutaway buses rather than low floor city buses and you were not allowed to stand which created issues at the AM peak

I was hesitant about keeping my flight last weekend. Absolutely no way I would now especially given most airlines are relaxing their cancellation policies
