This is Adras, who, along his sister and childhood friends, picked a fight with an ancient forest that took their families, realized later that he was stupid, then confronted the people he influenced who stabbed him in the eye. Hasn't figured out what to do since so he's a hermit in a cabin rn

It was a rancorous, stinging taste. He could have sworn it wasn't this bad before. It did not compromise with his hunger at all. Yet, he swallowed. Finally, once the astringent punch was through, he felt it. An aftertaste ever so slightly sweet. Had he never gotten this far in eating one? He couldn't recall. Warily, he took another bite. This one, as bitter as he first recalled; a little more forgiving than the one prior. And that sweet savor glowing a little brighter than before. He thought that perhaps he was getting used to it. But by the time he finished that first one, it was saccharine and mellifluous. He grabbed another fruit.

"I'm sorry." He muttered.

He pulled himself up with the hilt of his rooted blade, cupping the blood pouring from where his eye used to be. Riva approached with her sai towards his neck, and they stood face to face one last time. Though battered, scarred and defeated, he would not let it die here. He gave his sister a smile, before splashing the blood he held onto her eyes, buying himself enough time to push her onto the ground and get a head start. She cursed his name, trying to get back up, before getting held back by the rest of the group, trying to not lose both of their leaders to the woods.

Forgot yesterday and almost today, double upload

A familiar squeal pierced their ears once more, as this titanic force stampeded towards them. They all managed to steer clear of the boar's way with ease. Adras looked across to his entourage, ensuring their safety. The boar, turning back towards them all stomped the ground beneath him with unparalleled might, cleaving the very earth, leaving a chasm between Adras and his sister with the rest of the group. The boar knew who led them, so he charged towards the spearhead. Without much of a choice, Adras told the others to run, before being chased away by Otomias.

Now being preyed upon by his own devil, he knew he couldn't win. Another just a tinge more foolish might have thought they could stand a chance, but he knew firsthand of the bold carnage his hunter was capable of. So he ran, ran as far as his legs and his will would take him; until the trees swallowed him whole. It took what felt like an eternity to realize the stomping had faded away. And the silence that followed him was resounding. It only now was apparent how quiet the forest had been around him.

He went days without food, trying to find his way back. It was hopeless. He was sure that by now, he'd have found at least some sort of game, but it seemed like they had all rightfully turned their backs on him. As he restlessly tumbled through the underbrush, he clinged onto the side of a sequoia, ripping the vine that wrapped around it onto the ground with him. He sat up, with his back against the redwood, exhausted.

He looked up, trying to see the sky through the branches to no avail. He resigned his sight to the forest floor, where the vine he ripped lay. Still hanging to it, he spots the ever-bitter fruit. Out of options, he lurches towards it until it is in his grasp. He reminisces of all the times he had tried it; many of them as punishment over some childish bet with his sister, and how he spat it out without a thought. That would not be an option this time. And so, he bit, and it bit back.

"... You really don't understand, do you?" Adras had been brought to his knees, the pain overriding his will. He held his wound, as if his hands could ever contain that much blood. "Understand what, Adras?! Nothing of what you're saying makes sense. You're-... You've lost your mind!" Riva responded, breathless. Her cheek scarred and bloodied, she approached him, with little remorse and sword in hand. "So-... Drop this nonsense before I have to put it down myself!"

The giants of the wood were felled, one after the other. Once for resources, now pointlessly, the sequoias of this sacred land were brought down. The animals they had displaced, hunted indiscriminately. With their home no longer dependent on the fruits of the land, they felt no remorse in scorching it, they weren't burdened by their own sustainability. The forest must soon make its stand, they thought. And they would be ready.

Within their mourning, Adras and Riva found themselves lost. Though they had learned a lot from their parents, it seemed like all their teachings fell flat in the face of this tragedy. Every attempt at taking up their mantle felt like a stinging reminder of what had been taken away. And that pain was seemingly everlasting. An endless source of unwanted memories, which flowed like a viscous oil within the crevices of their minds, until it was set alight by one bitter spark…

The forest would pay. Adras had set his mind, there was no cowering away, no other alternative. He would take what the forest had taken from them, an eye for an eye. They had all the experience of fighting the wilds, they had nothing left to lose and the forest had shown its hand. They must emerge victorious now, if not for themselves, then for all those they lost. He rounded up the few that remained and set forth. Riva was unsure at first, but before long, she stood next to her brother in the path towards his conquest.

Abandoning herself to her fury, Riva charged forward with a mighty roar. Adras, on the defensive, swiftly responded with a sidestep to his left, and with rehearsed confidence thrust his blade towards the side of his sister's face, leaving a deep cut parallel to her cheekbone. Not a mortal wound, but one designed to deter. And though Adras knew his sparring partner very well, he did not know his enemy, who without as much as flinching or a second thought, took to her sidearm, and with a merciless slash tore his sight asunder.

With a bellowing laughter ringing through blood-soaked mist, it seemed like the end. Their livelihoods leveled by the Mighty Boar. And as resilient as they were, it seemed like their very spirits had collapsed under the weight of their crumbling home. Over the next couple of weeks, there were attempts to recover what was left from the wreckage, and set base far from the Hallowed Wood. Many left during this time, defeated, they resigned to the lives in cities, despite whatever qualms had brought them out to the wilds. Now reduced to a handful of individuals, their fate was as uncertain as ever.

"Then consider this your forewarning, should your imprudence perplex you." Ferolyn turned back to the forest. “Farewell.” With an echoing howl, she left the encampment, and its people, on their own. And if anything they were, it was resilient. These obstacles placed upon them would not be any different than the prior. They were never as unwelcome.

For every stolen tool, a trap would be set. For every tree cut, their food stores would be raided. Each side escalated in their own way, and soon enough, mankind had brought war with them. Equipped not as much for survival, but for battle, they planted themselves with armored roots, unmoving. But in the end, the old gods were not old for their godhood.

It all came to an end on that unforgivable evening, when not a sparrow, cricket or man made a noise. Tensions ran high throughout that clearing, before that thin strand of fate was abruptly cut by a sharp, piercing, porcine squeal. The memories of that night are only kept by a begrudging few, hazy and repressed. Amongst those still around to remember would be Adras, and his sister, Riva. Their parents, much less fortunate.

They took up arms against the forest, and if it would not conform to them, they would beat it to submission. With traps laid and rakes and scythes in hand, they not only made advances towards reclaiming what they perceived as theirs, but began expanding even further. This would not do in the woods’ eye. But in one last attempt at bargaining, the forest sent its most reasonable, the Great Wolf.

"You do not know what you're trifling with..." Barely catching his breath, Adras warned his former comrades. "You must listen to me; nobody will be brought back. You will just annihilate the life that calls this place home, or die trying!" His pleas fell flat. "Coward!" Riva exclaimed. "You are nothing but a gutless, faint-hearted coward! To think we let you lead us for so long-... It makes me sick!" Adras stayed quiet.

The forest, however, would not allow itself to be conquered. It rejected their very presence, like a sickness in the bloodstream. Just one of its many slights towards them, though the trees were riddled with fruit-bearing vines, their taste was so bitter they deemed them inedible without thorough preparation and treatment. The wildlife always seemed to delight upon it. If only they knew what grew outside of this place, they thought.

Soon after they established themselves amongst the sequoias, it was clear to the forest that these new inhabitants wouldn't be easily dismissed. It arranged for their game to be stolen by the cunning foxes, for their crops to be trampled and preyed upon, and for their surroundings to be overgrown. But yet, they did not stand down. This, in fact, only made them more resilient.

The Hallowed Wood was, at best, unwelcoming. Only someone with a deathwish, or someone desperate (or desperately curious) would dare enter, let alone live within its realm. It was a miracle that they lasted as long as they did without any casualties. But with every fight won by the skin of their teeth, the strength and importance of the people behind it all shone brighter. Though strong-willed and stubborn, above all else they cared for themselves and each other, and that is what kept them alive and thriving.

That was, until he saw an opportunity. He let go of his blade with one hand, and in one swift motion he deflected his sister's blade with the back of his gauntlet, knocking her off her footing. He then delivered a frontal kick to her core, pushing her back and gaining some space. They stared each other down with heavy breaths, circling each other, looking for the chance to strike.

When all was said and done, the encampment had been quite successful. Though for a while it felt like stability was unachievable, through tenacity and willpower, they secured themselves and planted their own roots into this hostile soil.

Amongst the many responsible for this success were Nora and Erbos Timoría. The former, a skilled metalworker, kind and reliable, known for her willingness to aid in all endeavors of the members of the expedition; "No request is too small" was a phrase she'd commonly repeat. The latter was a biologist, forward-thinking and cautious, if perhaps a little much; he specialized in plant life, something all too necessary in those hostile grounds of gloom and trees. Brought with them, Adras and Riva, who were shaping up to be just as fine leaders as their parents.

Should definitely start with Edith since I essentially have her as a face. She is a timid, yet powerful wizard and expert fencer, driven to exhausting study and training in an effort to "prove" herself to her loved ones, who have never once doubted her
