One of my favorite things to do when snow falls is to just go for a walk. There's something magical about seeing the world blanketed in freshly fallen snow, the chill in the air when it fills your lungs, the quiet. It always brings me a sense of peace.

Experimenting with style tonight. This feels closer to where I want to take my art right now - a little more impressionist. I don't like what I'm doing with that pathway though, may have to deal with that...

Evergreens at Sunset. Another little sunset sky study. Since I've been treated to do many brilliant sunsets this week, I wanted to try painting them.

Another quick painting: tree at sunset. I've been TREE-ted to so many brilliant sunsets this week, they actually make me glad for the time spent parked in traffic on my drive home from work (not the actual driving part, the stopping part to look at the sky - just so we're clear).

Here's a little thing that delights me: mixing colors I haven't before. Today I mixed Pthalo Blue (Green Shade) with Burnt Umber and ended up with with a beautiful dark green that I was absolutely not expecting.

I was so delighted that I actually said "Ohhh!" out loud.

A piece of watercolor paper with square swatches of paint. I do this when I mix colors before using them in a painting so that I'm not surprised by the color, tone, or intensity of the paint. The two dark green swatches on the top left were created by blending Pthalo Blue with a little Burnt Umber - a result that I was not expecting, but that absolutely delighted me.

This one painting taught me so much. I've still got a long way to go before I'm where I want to be, but this painting was incredibly instructive and a whole lot of fun.

Yesterday was a good day in my house. I completed my router set-up with a new bullnose bit. Began a master study of Edward Seago's Norfolk Boatyard painting - so far so good! Finished the day by baking Coffee Cake Cookies, a new recipe that turned out delicious!

The cakey cookies are a soft slight brown in color with crackled tops that have been coated and baked with crumble topping; they taste just like coffee cake in cookie form and are amazing. The recipe can be found on the Cookies and Cups website at: https://cookiesandcups.com/coffee-cake-cookies/ A partial painting showing my watercolor interpretation of Edward Seago's Norfolk Boatyard oil painting. The work is only partially finished with a moody sky of contrasting dark grey-blue's and dull yellow ochre, soft blue hills in the distance, and a grassy marsh field on the left painted in. On the right, unpainted sketches of boats in the harbor, three buildings (mostly seen by their rooftops), and an unpainted field running alongside the harbor water are waiting to be finished. This project was done alongside a video from artist Robert Mee conducting the same practice study. A fully set-up router table sits in a garage shop. The floor is lightly decorated with saw dust and wood shavings. The router table has a large On / Off switch installed, featuring an over-sized "Off" paddle, making it easy to turn the device off when needed. A full complement of safety features area also installed, including stop blocks, a dust hood and bit guard, and feather boards (only one is visible here, but I have additional boards to mount to the vertical guides when necessary. Routers are wonderful, but incredibly dangerous pieces of equipment, so I take safety seriously in the shop and especially around equipment such as this.

Today, I painted a quick watercolor sketch of a beach scene. I think I'm going to spend a lot of time and effort over the next year really learning to paint looser than I have to this point.

This might be my favorite painting yet. At the very least, it's up there. A simple weathered red barn in a field, but I'm learning to listen to that voice in my head and gut when it tells me to stop.

Not entirely sure this counts as Ink-tober or not - maybe Paint-tober? This was inspired by a painting done by a friend of my grandparents, long before I was born, of my grandfather's old hunting cabin in southern NY, somewhere near the Pennsylvania border.

I wasn't sure if I'd post this or not, but decided to do it. Not because I don't like this one, but because I do like it (mostly).

I know that as I continue, I'll keep growing, but I genuinely enjoyed the process of painting this one and I'm super happy with how this sky turned out.

Filled my first pallette tonight. Now I have freshly filled pans of paint ready to go (and several paint-stained fingers). I will steal joyful moments where I can and—who knows?—maybe even paint a few pictures.

Folk art Friday.

I spent the week exploring the folk art style with some Shana Circe tutorials. Fun week and I feel refreshed and ready to dive back into my regular lessons again.

The mountains win again.

Today's practice picture is also my first attempt at peaky, snow-capped mountains. This makes me want to go on a long hike or bike trail.

This week, I seem to have wanted movies with longer titles and with spooky season around the corner, I started dipping into my horror backlog. I'm not sure if "Humanist Vampire [...]" is an actual horror film, but it's a darn fine coming of age movie.
