Just after college graduation some friends and I were in DC at an all-you-can-eat seafood joint and we noticed one person hadn’t seemed to start on her shrimp bc she had no pile of shells. She was like, “you’re supposed to PEEL them?” 😬 🤣

I walked a couple of miles today and nearly wiped out on icy sidewalks at least a half dozen times. Residential streets were way better than in front of commercial (and/or empty) buildings.

Yes. December 23, 2020.
I was just looking back at this year in photos. January seems so very long ago!

I don’t think I realized you lost your mom about the same time we lost ours. What a terrible year that was. What a beautiful memory this is.

I saw so many movies there while I was at Loyola! Your feet stuck to the floor and all the seats kind of leaned to the side, but I still remember seeing the DeNiro version of Cape Fear there. And 9 1/2 Weeks.

Do you ever diagram now? (I do, in my head; kind of like I do arithmetic in my head by visualizing the numbers: “carry the two”)

For reasons too involved to go into here, I had 1:1 lessons for most of my elementary school years with ancient Sister Cordelia. I believe I was the only student at St. Gabriel’s who was diagramming sentences. Pretty sure she used British rules as well!

You all know I adore theater and go as often as I can - here in Chicago or in NYC. For decades, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has provided meals, medicine, health care and hope to the theater community across the US (including Puerto Rico). I’ll be tossing some coins in their virtual red bucket

It’s not “my“ lake (that’s Lake Kabetogama, part of Voyageurs Nat’l Park) but it’s nearby and in danger of losing its pristine wilderness to copper mining and other environmental threats, so I’m tossing some $ to save the Boundary Waters:

Many of you know that I lost my dad a couple of years ago to Alzheimer’s. His mom, my grandma Irene, too - decades earlier. With all the federal grant cancellations and funding cuts, I’m all in to help Alzheimer’s Association keep advancing research toward a cure

Democracy, you‘re in danger, girl. So in addition to my monthly contributions, the ACLU gets a little end-of-year love.

Even with SNAP supposedly restored I’m still worried about those with food insecurity so I’m throwing a little extra to the Greater Chicago Food Depository www.chicagosfoodbank.org

I also am really interested in the whole stuffed cabbage. I make a deconstructed stuffed cabbage thing often in the winter but am always looking for new cabbage recipes!
