"Migrants with green cards" are called Permanent Residents and they are entitled to benefits if they're under the poverty level. Most are not, though.

I have found that people unfamiliar with the overwhelming experience of grief ask a lot of intrusive or dumb questions. Stop it, people. There's no normal in this process.
