I am once again banging pots and pans and yelling "undocumented workers didn't steal your jobs, employers would rather take advantage of their vulnerable status than pay EITHER OF YOU a living wage"

can i just say, from the perspective of a historian who literally has a show about people who did/said things that were objectively f*cked up and should have caused them enormous shame forever: that megyn kelly quote is horrifying

Tired of thinking about contemporary terrible people? Why not take a break and think about this dead terrible person instead??

seriously I had so much fun on this podcast! @ceaubin.com is hilarious and understands the value of cathartic rage, listen to this show
TODAY ON TGS: we’re joined by the incredible Vanessa Williamson @vanessawilliamson.bsky.social to talk about death, taxes, and Martin Witherspoon Gary - a Confederate general who was willing to cause a lot of the former to avoid the latter. It’s a wild ride.

The idea that sexual abuse is part of “private” life instead of a public crisis has done incalculable damage. Anti-rape activists have to fight to even make it possible to expose sexual abuse as a wrongdoing in public without being silenced and undermined. That fight is far from won

Still looking for some of these! We’ve said yes to a couple of pitches, but are looking for around 3-5 more for early next year.

We are primarily looking for historians of ancient, medieval, and non-Western figures.
Call for (post-PhD) historians and cultural scholars for the pod! We have a specific wishlist of scholarship we’re looking to add to the lineup:
- ancient & medieval history
and/or
- histories of anywhere other than the US and UK, preferably outside Europe

Pitches to: [email protected]

Discovering that there were (are??) people I’ve never met in my life with intense feelings towards/about me was truly one of the most bizarre moments of my life. Rent free and I didn’t even know about it
i said on the other site that once you hit the 10k mark you basically generate your own rogues gallery that hates you and probably is sending your posts in the Discord/DMs

said post got Noah Smith mad at me
It really is true, you get a few thousand random people following you on social media and then people start shadow boxing an image of you in their head

Okay here's an insane non-Epstein-related question: is anybody else only capable of putting things away when they're in piles?

What resonates so grimly with the Epstein crimes is the way rape renders women and girls invisible. Even when the focus is on legal accountability for the men who rape, it’s *their* states of mind, their conspiracies, their infighting that takes up all the oxygen.

btw if any history or media reporters ever want to run an article/feature on academic historians in mainstream podcasting, there is some really cool stuff happening right now (I'm just saying)

It's a bouncing baby podcast! I'm so excited to have a new cousin in the Multitude pod family (but not in like a weird corporate soul-sucking labor-stealing way)

Are you an early career humanities scholar looking for next year's plans? Have you dreamed of having an office only a few doors down from mine?

Great news - the Whitney Humanities Center is hiring a postdoc working within the broader theme of 'Rot: Politics, Aesthetics, Regeneration'
