I suppose it depends on who you ask - I definitely know a lot of hardcore "FromSoft is king" fans. Even the genre "souls like" suggests imitation, and seems to implicitly preclude fundamental improvement. But I definitely think some "souls likes" feel better to play than FS's own library. 🤷🏼♀️
