This autumn has been an exciting one w/ this trio, all of which recontextualize traditional sounds & instrumentation and present them through different lenses. I'm speaking of Michael Hix's Wonderful Aspiration of the Source, Jon Camp's 'Proceed,' and The Far Sound's 'To Heart, To Earth'.

Simmering psychedelic steel. Heck yeah
ravensingstheblues.bsky.social
The Far Sound turns pedal steel away from country expectations for an LP that explores the simmer of psychedelics. The steel can’t help but pull its compass towards Western woes, but Pedrosa fills his landscapes with tangles of Rag, Turkish psych, & nods to Morricone & Seastones. bit.ly/3KfMpEI

‘To Heart, To Earth’ is the new album from The Far Sound, a project founded by Rick Pedrosa (Abronia, Federale etc)

The first reveal from the new album is “Let Warmth Turn Inward” - a track perfectly suited for this season of shifting colors and extended golden hours.

Happy Release Day to Wonderful Aspiration of the Source!

It’s an honor to present this album to the world. I was lucky enough to witness this project as it was getting off the ground before I moved from Nashville. And here we are. The full vision.

The second reveal from Wonderful Aspiration of the Source is a track titled “Deer Park.” It’s a song in which space speaks as powerfully as the notes themselves. Michael’s playing is delicate - but somehow also powerfully intense. “Deer Park” is currently streaming wherever you get your music. ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼

Another one for Andy’s greatest lines:

“yearning steel sighs”
ravensingstheblues.bsky.social
“Kerosene Goodbye’ wraps yearning steel sighs in string swells and the dexterous fingerpicking that Camp’s been known for in the past, carving out a tender ode to his family’s rural roots. bit.ly/3HRJlO4

With the background of twilight, an owl on a branch, a ship in the background, a butterfly flying, a young man lighting a kerosene lamp. Reads "Jon Camp Proceed"

“Kerosene Goodbye” is the 1st track to be revealed from Jon Camp’s forthcoming album, Proceed.

The song title is a nod to Jon’s father and his move into the age of electricity in Iowa in the early 1940s.

Proceed comes out Oct 17. Available now for preorder on vinyl / CD.

Michael Hix (Nashville Ambient Ensemble) has taken on the moniker Wonderful Aspiration of the Source, further embracing the meditative center of his works. With Hix trading synth for a B-Bender guitar, it's aloft somewhere between ambient country and jazz, a radiant pool of calm. bit.ly/46qDvgB

You have a variety of choices when it comes to guitar music. I recommend this one. Michael’s deft handling of the B-bender is impressive. And unique. Rooted in Nashville’s past and taking it into the future. ✌🏼
