An Atlantic Pygmy Octopus (Octopus joubini) in a plastic container for observation. It has a orangish brown colour. Its mantle is leaning slightly back. Six of its arms are pointing downward, touching the sandy bottom of the container, making it look like it is walking. One arm is slightly back, touching the side of the container. Its last arm is is pointing forward and curled at the end. Overall, it looks like the octopus is doing a funky dance move.

Most photos of pygmy squids you see are close up, so you can get a good look at these tiny squids.

But when you get these zoomed out shots, you can see how silly they look with their tiny bodies glued to a sea plant, just waiting for a meal to swim by.
A Two-toned Pygmy Squid (Idiosepius pygmaeus) glued onto a sea plant sticking out of the sandy sea floor. The whole photo is on a 45 angle. There are two other plants on the left edge of the photo, but otherwise there aren't more plants of the same type around. The pygmy squid is attached by the mantle, about two thirds up the plant. The pygmy squid has its mantle pointing down with its head bend a 90 degree angle with its limbs pointed up at a 90 degree angle. The pygmy squid is translucent, but it has some greenish yellow on one side of the mantle (the way away from the plant) and it covered in small black or brown chromatophores. The plant looks like single blade or possibly fern shaped.

Maybe it's just the horns, but I get the feeling this octopus is planning some mischief.

A juvenile Lesser Two-spot Octopus (Octopus bimaculoides) in a clear plastic container. It is quite small, probably only a few centimetres in total length. The water is cloudy and there is a pointy shell on the left. The octopus is close to the wall, so you can see the light brown underside of its arms and mouth area. Its arms are going in different directions and wavy in different waved. You can see its two eye on the top, and it has a small, fleshy horn above each eye. Its head is dark brown, but it might just be a shadow. You cannot see its mantle. To the right, is a person holding a black phone, probably to take a picture.

Bigfin squids (genus Magnapinna) have a reputation for being eldritch looking creatures, but that's mostly from some low res footage where they are just floating with their arms dangling.

When you get see them swimming, they look like a regular squid shaped squid, if you ignore their noodley arms.
A bigfin squid (genus Magnapinna) swimming above the deep sea floor. Its head, mantle and upper arms look like a typical squid, but it has two massive fins that are much larger than its body, and its lower arms are long, thin tendrils that are several times the length of the rest of the squid. Its lower arms look like strings dragging behind. The squid is a pale beige with white lower arms and slightly translucent fins. The seafloor is a mix of sediment and sediment covered rocks.

A Common Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) in a cone snail shell, probably Conus canariensis. It is sticking its head and part of its mantle out of the opening, and is looking somewhat towards the camera. The mantle side is facing the camera. It is sort of leaning of of the left side of the shell, so it makes it looks as if they are just coming out of the shell to see what is going on. The octopus is significantly smaller than the shell. The conical end of the shell is facing the camera, and the tip is going into some purplish algae. The shell is yellow. There are two small rocks on the left side. The sand is black.

A Berry's Bobtail Squid (Euprymna berryi) sitting on the sea floor, covered in small pebbles or large grains of sand. The pebbles are on its face, head and mantle. You can still see much of its skin, which is an iridescent blue and covered in black chromatophores.

An East Pacific Red Octopus (Octopus rubescens) in a plastic container. It is up at the side, with one arm sticking to the side, going up and then curving down at the halfway point and then curling in a spiral at the tip. The octopus is looking out of the container, but they are at a slight angle and the curled arm is covering up the bottom of the head/top of the arms, making it sort of look like a person trying to cover a smirk on their face. Its mantle is going to the left and down, and the octopus has orange colour of differing shades.

Two panel meme. Top panel: A Stubby Bobtail Squid (Rossia pacifica) sitting on top of a Giant California Sea Cucumber (Apostichopus californicus). The bobtail squid has its arms back and under its mantle. Its translucent white suckers are visible. It has a dark red colour with orange iridescent bits(especially around its eye) that make it look like a fiery gem. The sea cucumber is way bigger than the bobtail squid, at least twice its height and much longer (One end goes out of frame). The sea cucumber is dark red with large orange fleshy spikes. It has its arms lying on the ground in a wavy posture, and it is holding a piece of red seaweed. The octopus has its mantle behind it, angled downward. It is orange, and it has its papillae raised.

Given their amazing colour changing abilities, it's easy to forget that European Common Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) will decide to not bother with that and just cover themselves in sand.

A European Common Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) laying on the sea floor, covered in sand. It in a small depression, and is almost entirely covered in sand and small rock. The only parts that aren't covered are its eyes and some skin below the eyes, as well as a small part of the mantle opening and the sides of some arms. Its skin is beige with some bits of brown. You can make out that it is a cuttlefish being despite being covered it is still cuttlefish shaped, and the depression in the sand is also cuttlefish shaped.

Two East Asian Common Octopus (Octopus sinensis) mating. The one on top is dark brown, while the bottom one is light brown. The top one has a slightly rough skin texture and the bottom one has papillae raised around its eye. The top one is on top of the bottom's mantle, completely covering it. You can see the the bottom's eye sticking out in between the top one's arms. The arms are going in different directions and the bottom one has its webbing stretched out.

A Southern Bobtail Squid (Euprymna tasmanica) all snuggled up in the sand. Only its eyes are sticking out of the sand. It is quite small, and the grains of sand are clearly visible.

This is a great photo showing of the bioluminescent arm tips of an Octopoteuthis deletron, but it still looks to me like a squid showing of its freshly painted nails...

A cute Graneledone sp. sitting on the sea floor. The arms are curled and sitting around it. The octopus is purple and bumpy with big black eyes, making it look quite cute. The sea floor is mostly sand but there are some rocks of various sizes.

Brown-striped Octopus (Amphioctopus burryi) in a glass jar or bottle under the sand. The brown bottle is completely covered in sand, with only rim visible. The octopus has its eyes and part of its arms out of the bottle, with its arms reaching back into the bottle. It appears to be in a small repression. The octopus is grey and brown, with a brown strip going through its eye. It looks very cute and cozy.

A European Common Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) at the bottom of the frame while a scuba diver is in the background, out of focus. The cuttlefish has sea plants on either side, but you cannot see what is beneath it. Its outer arms are pointed down, possibly lifting itself up, and its its inner are are sticking out. The inner most pair of arms are raised, then bend at about a 90 degree angle and point down. The second most inner pair of arms go down and then forward, curling at the tips. You can see some of its suckers. The cuttlefish is brown and yellowing brown with white on the underside. Some papillae are raised. The diver is in a wet suit and have both a snorkel as well as scuba gear.

Its flesh is a translucent blue, and it is cover in dark red, almost black chromatophores. On its mantle and around its eyes, is a yellow and green iridescence.

A Coconut Octopus (Amphioctopus marginatus) sitting in an open clam shell. The shell is on its side, so one side is up vertically on the octopus's left, and the other side is behind the octopus. The octopus is facing forward. It has one arm up of the vertical left shell, so it sort of looks like a person raising their arm and leaning on a door frame. It has a fleshy "horn" above each eye, and its is a mist of brown and off white. The shell is white on the inside, light brown on the outside, and purple at the rim. There is an empty snail shell in the back and to the left. There is fine grey sediment on the seafloor.

One of its centre arms is raised up and curling like a cane at the top. Its left centre arm is going out, then bending to the left.
