Numbered corrections could only be done at the time of registration and before the entry was signed. The marginal note will say "twenty nine" with the initials of the registrar.

It's a numbered correction, - he wrote "Boy" in the wrong column and crossed it out. The 29 means it was the 29th such correction in that register. There will be a marginal note too, but that won't be visible on a digital image ( it would be on pdf or paper copy).

It's almost like the enumerator is taunting us .... today I'm trying to sort out a complicated family in the 1851 census and so very helpfully the key person in the household is just noted as a "Relative".

Still - who wants #Genealogy to be easy ..
