That was a biiiig factor in going this route, because I could have incremental reading goals like that. It feels more exciting when I pull a book off the shelf, open it, and realize I can almost read it compared to just a couple weeks ago 😁

Not sure if I'm going about language learning for Dutch the right way, but starting out with picture books designed for 2-5 year old reading feels gentler on my brain. Guess if it works?

I had to go with an ablation for insurance before they would let me get a hysto and between Endo pain and ablation cramps - Endo is worse, so if you're used to high pain, you probably will be more annoyed at the pain rather than fetal ball. Good luck.

Hot packs will be your friend, think the *worst* cramps for a few days. Hopefully it does help with the bleeding.

Seriously, if you've got kids and you genuinely love them, be the safety net you wish your guardians would have been. Doesn't matter if you 'turned out fine' - heal your inner child by being the adult your younger self needed.

Straight As to still be loved.

I was 32 when my mom looked at me so innocently baffled at me saying academics was my personality and she said 'you know you would have been fine making Bs and Cs"
No. No I didn't. That was never specified as an option. Now I have an anxiety disorder around academics.

Things I've learned from social media I wish my parents would have done:

Give me code words to get out of social situations while preserving what little rep I had.
Give me safe words if I do something insanely stupid and need to have them come get me without going ballistic.
Told me I didn't need

I don't know those ones, but I've been debating on an omnibus copy of Hellboy, The Witcher, and Vampire Hunter after finishing Lord Baltimore. Which do you suggest?

There's a fantastic water color in Het Jaar Rond for October that I fully plan on doing a study of tomorrow to understand color layering.
There's a lane up near station Zuid I really want to paint this weekend because of the fall foliage like this book.

Acquired a few new picture books that I can juuuust borderline read. I can also study the watercolor in them.

Found it on Kobo and added it to my wishlist, thank you for the suggestion

Not yet, I've been slowly working through his catalogue as they come up for sale on Kobo.

Was able to pick up Silence by Thich Nhat Hanh for $2 on Kobo today.

I've read Heart of the Buddha and How to Sit by him and rather liked his style.

The Art of Simple Living by Shunmyo Masuno and Ichigo Ichie by Hector Garcia have also been excellent reads.

Fell down a rabbit hole trying to find what brown sugar bags look like in the Netherlands so I can make chocolate chip cookies and instead found an online NL shop that carries poblano and ancho...

You know, sometimes the universe gives out little wins.

And yes I bookmarked the website.

Drinking tea, using antique teacups for watercoloring Dutch number flashcards, and listening to cafe jazz music while it's foggy out has a certain romance to it I don't think I can properly capture.

Can y'all do something for me for two minutes when you run into this on your time line.

Turn off your phone screen.
Close your eyes.
Breathe in for a count of four
Breathe out for a count of eight
Repeat ten times
Then continue with your day.

Making potato and leek soup on this grey, rainy day and going to look through online thrift shops for a little bit of storage in the dining room.

Those are the best to train your birds to a whistle with. They will come running once they know it's bug time, which is awesome if you free range and need to put them away at an odd hour.

Behold, my art kit!
I went to the thrift store and bought containers, cups, and a little treasure chest that fits my Windsor paint tubes perfectly.
Shelf filled with antique cups, vases, and paint brushes

There is something profound to the geology of the west and southwest that is stuck in my bones, but like hell am I willingly flying back into the country anytime soon.
Probably going to just pay SIL's vacation to fly the dogs over at this point.

Struggling to figure out a winter coat here. Nothing I own is waterproof, and my Ariat work coat is waiting to ship, probably won't be here until after Christmas.
I've been trying for BIFL brands and would like a coat suggestion that's canvas I can wax. Hate puffers.

Followed a water color tutorial today and rather liked the results.

Language acquisition is weird with an audio processing disorder.
It's good and clear until the one 'new' word is used and then all subsequent words are gibberish. Registers are hard still because numbers trigger that apd like nothing else.

Going to be proud for a moment.
I ordered all of my groceries on an app that is only in Dutch.
Hopefully I got everything filled out correctly, but I feel like that's a success.
I did good too at understanding the museum steward yesterday until he started giving instructions on a wristband.
