It's wonderful to be back in Ernen again, for three performances of my work over two days, during the 'Newcomers' part of Festival Musikdorf Ernen. Going to be very hard to leave this place in a few days for the final time!

@rsno.bsky.social officially my favourite orchestra in the world after telling me that can't tell the age difference between a publicity photo taken 18 years ago and one taken last year. 😂 I'll take that fib any day! :)

Super happy that my Toccata, commissioned by Simon Hogan, features in this Choral Evensong! Huge thanks to Tom Winpenny for this fab performance.

It's so wonderful to be back in Ernen for Festival Musikdorf Ernen! Hugely grateful that so many of my works are being performed here - the earliest a cello piece I wrote in 1997 (!) and the latest, a new string quartet that I only finished this February. Feeling exceptionally lucky to be here.

I had a wonderful time at the Austrian Academy of Sciences tonight, for the 25th Annivery celebrations of the Gregor Mendel Institute. My ‘Erbensrondo’ (or Rondo of the peas) was inspired by Mendel’s work, but also by cutting edge research into duckweed and chlamydomonas (a sort of green mould). 🫛😄

I decided to have a glass of wine and some very buttery toast right now instead of starting my new piece. But just had a killer idea whilst doing the above. Ha! Sometimes it’s great to be a composer.

t was fab to be back at @kebleoxford yesterday (where I was Visiting Fellow a couple of years ago) to hear @orieloxford (where I’m now Musician in Residence) record my new anthem ‘O Maria, Virgo Pia’. The piece was written for the 40th Anniversary of the admittance of women at Oriel. Thanks to all!

Anyone have a spare ticket they can’t use for Festen on Monday or Thursday? Was meant to go tonight but a fatality on the train tracks near me meant all trains were cancelled. Don’t really feel I can stretch to a box (£480) all to myself, which is all that’s left..!

A nice lot of scores arrived in the post in the last few days! Some of these written ages ago now, but nice they are available for purchase! 🙂

Looking forward (as much as someone like me looks forward to talking in public can) to giving a talk about my music tonight as part of my residency at Oriel College, Oxford. Here’s some harmony inspired by duckweed that I probably won’t get to, but, it looks pretty! 🙂
