To move forward with focus, we must first understand this simple fact: we are up against an ideology that has given up not only on the premise and promise of liberal democracy but on the livability of our shared world – on its beauty, on its people, on our children, on other species. The forces we are up against have made peace with mass death. They are treasonous to this world and its human and non-human inhabitants.

It's not even about making them believe the absurdities. In fact, it's better if they don't. What matters is that they will *say* they believe the absurdities. That they will *insist* that they do, and *defend* the absurdities to anyone who tries to argue against them.

This is the essence of the "big lie." Once someone is willing to say they believe something like “Oregon doesn’t even have stores anymore,” despite the evidence of their own eyes, facts no longer matter. You can define any reality for them, and they’ll defend it for you by whatever means you choose.

What she meant is that when the Republicans are weak, voters realise that the Democrats, who then hold all the power, neither believe in nor intend to implement the policies their supporters voted for, and that despite every effort to hide it from voters, the Democrats are not a left-wing party.
