Unemployment is run by the states, so a federal employee pays into the state taxes, income and etc., in where they reside. So a laid off fed will file for unemployment in their home state.

I took a job with the Federal government to support our growing family while maintaining my values of service. I will not go into details about my position or agency because I need to be careful about what I post on social media. That being said, I will also not be silent.

There's definitely an argument to be made for restructuring the government workforce but it shouldn't be so damaging. Comparing the civil service to public sector misses the fact that businesses have a profit motive, government does and should not.
