Excellent couple of days at @ascl-uk.bsky.social Annual Conference. Great keynotes by @mannybotwe.bsky.social @pepediiasio.bsky.social @alastaircampbell2.bsky.social @lewisgoodall.com @samfr.bsky.social and lots more. Much food for thought and many things to take back. #ascl2025

A remarkable stat: Heidi Alexander’s appointment as Transport Secretary means the cabinet is now 100% state-educated for the first time in history.

Mid half-term day off on a Friday. What an occasion!

On a local curriculum working group earlier discussing KS5 offers. Full range of approches from "scrap everything vocational and offer a T-Level" to "carry on with our current offer and hope the government changes plans".

@teachertapp.bsky.social What about 10 students? Should the first option be 10 students or fewer? #surveypolice

Early in my career I remember wasting many hours in pastoral meetings debating whether report cards should have anything from a two- to a five-point scale, and a while later debating changing again. I'm now imagining similar meetings at the inspectorate discussing the same for school report cards.

Watching a school (that has been a difficult journey) come together for a beaitiful remembrance event was a huge highlight of the year so far. Amazing what can be achieved when everyone works together to achieve a shared goal.

Both my boys cheered during the Budget when they announced the cut to draught beer duty. They are 6 and 3.

💷 Happy budget day 💷

Before we find out more on the new govt's plans this afternoon, and following on from the new Sutton Trust report (by @samfr.bsky.social) out earlier this week - where is education at right now, and what has changed over time?

A thread of LOTS of graphs 📈 📊

A great analysis of the recent decades in education policy as well as some thought-provoking questions for this new and largely state-educated government.
I have a report out today with The Sutton Trust looking back at the huge array of reforms over the past few decades and asking if they've made a difference.

What's got better, what's got worse, and what are the challenges for the new government?

I love @teachertapp.bsky.social but this question could be used in GCSE Maths to highlight the issues with surveys/response boxes.

What is wrong with this question. 2 marks.
