Brighton & Hove . Centrist, social liberal but fiscally more conservative . Dogs, conservation, wine, malt whisky
Blimey the 2025 Budget saga has more twists, turns and subplots that most mini-series on Netflix

Yes that was one of the most horrific &
notorious “round ups” and the subject of an excellent French film ‘La Rafle’ . They started in Germany in the 1930’s soon after Hitler took power and were used by the Nazi’s in many of the “territories” they siezed .
November 13, 2025 at 10:39 PM
The term used for this in 1930’s mainland Europe was “round up” . Different groups of people (Jews, gays and gypsies) but same concept .

As a European looking at the US, it’s extremely concerning

I bought my first flat in SW London at 21 for 4 times my salary in the late 1970’s as a graduate trainee .

Almost impossible for today’s youngsters and I imagine many more will enter retirement without owning a house . Also without the final salary pensions my generation had

As a pensioner who, like most I imagine, is mortgage free, I genuinely can’t begin to imagine what it must be like to be in the appalling predicament described in this article .

It was genuinely very easy (for most) to buy a home in the 1970’s/80’s and “trade up” every few years .

Ah, the weekly findout poll beloved by the likes of ‘Professor’ Matt Goodwin, Owen Jones and their fellow Reform/Green supporters, which everyone else just laughs at
November 13, 2025 at 3:47 PM
I disagree . Wes has outstanding communication skills and has a, gloves off, “tell it as it is”, authentic & down to earth appeal .

He’s likely the best candidate to beat Farage, which for many of us on the centre/centre left is the No 1 priority atm.
November 13, 2025 at 10:15 AM
Wes Streeting now clear betting favourite to be next PM
November 13, 2025 at 10:07 AM
Hopefully 🤞
November 13, 2025 at 9:52 AM
When the choice is between a populist hard right led by Farage, who wants to scrap the NHS and deport 250,000 immigrants a year and an equally dangerous hard left populist like Polanski, who wants to leave NATO . Centrism is a very attractive proposition
November 12, 2025 at 10:15 AM
Yes I have read it .

If would be useful however if you could provide me a link to where his Treasury spokesperson has explained in detail how his taxation, fiscal and economic plans add up .

Thanks in advance
November 12, 2025 at 10:01 AM
Maybe you and your Treasury spokesperson should call a press conference and outline *in detail* how your economic and fiscal plans do add up & then let the media question you .

Clue : you won’t, because your plans don’t add up and you’re a populist snake oil salesman, just like Farage
November 12, 2025 at 9:34 AM
Exactly . The “briefers” in No 10 just gave Wes an opportunity to demonstrate his outstanding communication skills and relatability.
November 12, 2025 at 9:04 AM
Zack is a left wing populist who wants to take Britain out of NATO and introduce unworkable wealth taxes . He’s a charlatan and threat to Britain’s security and economy, but each to their own
November 11, 2025 at 11:25 PM
Bonkers and it will cost circa £10 billion . That’s over 1p on income tax that youngsters, who will never see a state welfare pension, have to pay .

Boomers (and I’m one) need to stop telling hard up young people they have to pay for our triple lock and other such largesse .
November 11, 2025 at 7:24 PM
You have a great evening, I’m off to open a bottle of wine and cook dinner
November 11, 2025 at 6:07 PM
I wouldn’t dream of telling people who do vote for (just as I wouldn’t expect anyone to tell me) . However, I shall continue to explain the consequences of voting to people .

The consequence of voting Green, in all but a few seats, is that you’ll help make Farage PM. If that’s what you want, great
November 11, 2025 at 6:07 PM
I will vote Labour or LibDem whichever has the best chance of beating Farage .

Prior to Polanski becoming Leader of the Greens, I would also have been prepared to tactically vote Green .

However I will never vote for a party led by a dangerous populist & fool who wants to take us out of NATO
November 11, 2025 at 5:40 PM
There will always be polling outliers, however *sensible* people will always look at compendiums of all polls such as this Nowcast.

Sensible people also accept that, whether they like Labour or not, it is indeed a party of the left
November 11, 2025 at 5:26 PM
Fair points
November 11, 2025 at 4:55 PM
I don’t disagree but the 50 % on “the right” largely seem clear what they want ie. leaving the ECHR, mass deportation of immigrants, social conservatism, “put Britain first”.
The 50% who are broadly left of centre aren’t united at all in what they want .
November 11, 2025 at 4:54 PM
Totally agree that Blair inherited a strong economy unlike Starmer . I do however think that Blair and importantly the team he assembled for govt, were in a totally different league to Starmer and his
