Bowie Day 45 “Let Me Sleep Beside You” (1970) Track 10 of “The World of David Bowie”

Another previously unreleased song. Risqué lyrics for the time. One story has Bowie saying “I’m going to write some top ten rubbish” and writing this. Not rubbish, but not top ten either.

I have a little webcam at home that, when it periodically needs to be reset, it has a similar voice that says “Setup Complete”.

Rocket DOES NOT LIKE when the camera says setup complete.

Bowie Day 44 “Karma Man” (1970) Track 8 of “The World of David Bowie”

This album was a compilation of earlier songs with three previously unreleased tracks including this one, though it was written in 1967. Music is nice but the lyrics just slide right out of my brain.

Bowie Day 43 “Conversation Piece” (1970) B-Side to "The Prettiest Star"

Another character study song about a lonely person - Bowie likes his themes! The story, of an over-educated person who doesn't know how to talk to people made me think of the movie "Wonder Boys".

Also! I have to imagine that “The Prettiest Star” is at least partly an inspiration for my friend @planetx.bsky.social’s wonderful graphic novel - “Galaxy: The Prettiest Star” (Sequel “As the World Falls Down” coming in May! Also a Bowie reference!) 2/2

Bowie Day 42 “The Prettiest Star (Single Version)” (1970)

Not to be confused with the Aladdin Sane version. A sweet little love song with *stellar* lyrics. ;) Written for Angie Barnett, his girlfriend at the time. Some lovely guitar from Marc Bolan of T.Rex fame.

I think I prefer the instrumentation of the single, but you are very correct about his singing on the album version.

I found a quote about the two that said: “if the first 'Prettiest Star' was a valentine, its remake was a rowdy engagement party".

Tying on to my Bowie Days reference, which version of Bowie’s “The Prettiest Star” do you prefer? The 1970 single or the Aladdin Sane album version?

I very much agree!
