This is indeed a great performance.
Vicky Krieps - 📽️ The Dead Don’t Hurt (Viggo Mortensen, 2024)

Mortensen’s revenge western boasts style, a great cast, and a memorable heroine. Krieps, one of the best of her generation, takes on a French-Canadian character and leads a lot of the movie with solo scenes, and a romance with Mortensen.

Went to Barnes & Noble to buy 4Ks of Andrei Tarkovsky and Kon Ichikawa films, but sometimes the titles you’re told are “in stock at your store” are *not* in stock at your store and, wanting to support your local brick-and-mortar location, you find that other titles … present themselves.

When we talk about physical media, we are often only taking about personal collections but a big part of shunning the current digital ecosystem is supporting your local library. Not just for print books and periodicals but for movies, games and other medias too. Get. A. Library. Card.

UPDATE: This set has been purchased. I presented it, still in its Barnes & Noble shipping package, to my wife and told her, "You're giving me this for Christmas." Good viewing awaits in 2026!
I own several Manns and am *hoping* to acquire the Ranown set during the current B&N sale.

We're going to get miles of critical commentary about this nightmare-fuel award. I appreciate the laughs the comments so far have given me.
This is the most horrific trophy I’ve ever seen. It looks like a cursed object found in a desert crypt.

Nice that you guys nominated LITTLE AMELIE for Best Animated Film. It came and went so quietly I feared it would get lost during awards season. Not saying it should win, but it's a worthy nominee.

Remember when you could get any movie from Netflix sent to you in the mail? That was cool.

#letterboxdfriday#lastfourwatched Realized I’d never rated URCHIN, which I saw a couple of months ago but dated as though I’d seen it this week. Had I dated it correctly, this last four would include JAY KELLY, but oof, you don’t want to know what I thought of that one. (Hint: 1 star.)

Movies I need to see before I can compile a Best of 2025 list. Other than HAMNET, which is already out, I don’t know when any of these release in DC:

Hamnet
The Testament of Ann Lee
Father Mother Sister Brother
Marty Supreme (Christmas Day?)
My Undesirable Friends Part 1
Resurrection

Couldn't to Charlottesville in time to see SIRAT at the Virginia Film Festival, and now that my schedule is clear to see it as part of AFI Silver's EU Fest, I discover that the lone screening is sold out. Sad!

I don’t know how this team will ever get better if they trade away every star they develop. Was hoping new management would have a different philosophy. But they’re supposed experts, while I’m just a frustrated fan.

Got it right. LA GRAZIA was a strong finish for Angelika's monthly member movies, which this year also included URCHIN, HOLY COW, EX-HUSBANDS, and LITTLE AMELIE. Not all great, but all worth seeing (some closer to the recommendation line than others).
Seated at Mosaic for the Angelika free member movie, starting in a few minutes. We’re told only the rating and runtime. My sleuthing has determined that it’ll be the new Sorrentino. (My sleuthing is almost always wrong.)

The addition of ads to Prjme (we don’t pay the few dollars per month for the ad-feee version) hasn’t been fatal to most of what I watch on Prime, but you know what movie isn’t at all helped by the addition of ads? MORVERN CALLAR, that’s what movie.

This is what the Thanksgiving holiday truly is all about.
I just played Yahtzee with my family and, for the first time ever, got two Yahtzees during one game. (Yes, I won the game despite missing my bonus up top.)
