💊 Ketamine treatment restored the blunted motivation from inactivating Area 46. This restorative effect appears to act via Area 25, as direct ketamine infusion into the region also restored motivation.

We mapped the circuits within the prefrontal cortex that were involved:
🧠 Area 46 → Area 32 controlled motivation
🧠 Area 46 → ventral Area 32 controlled the response to threat

Direct connection with Area 25, itself a target for depression, had no effect.

Temporarily inactivating Area 46 in marmosets:
⚡️Reduced motivation to work for rewards (anhedonia-like)
⚡️Increased reactivity to threats (anxiety-like)

Effects that appear specific to the left hemisphere of the brain.
