Just back from the 5th anniversary EthicsLab conference in Yaoundé, Cameroon- a great project that brings together scholars from Africa & the Global North to critically engage on key ethical questions & challenges.

After a break from it for a few years, it’s good (& difficult!) to be back to discussing Citizenship in a Globalised World & bringing the theory into contact with new questions - and excellent to be in the Eastern Cape & amongst philosophers again! 🤓📖

Thank you to the *16* people who responded so thoughtfully to my defence of mandatory citizenship oaths. Below is my attempt at a response! Short version: citizenship oaths build trust and formalize new political affiliations in ways that newcomers find meaningful.
