A good read. This is where we are now; 'late-stage social media' is exactly the way I've been describing it. I don't believe we'll ever recapture the magic of our long gone internet, bc the nature of novelty is ephemeral; it wears off. And yet, I'm always hopeful new ideas are waiting to be born.

A good read. This is where we are now; 'late-stage social media' is exactly the way I've been describing it. I don't believe we'll ever recapture the magic of our long gone internet, bc the nature of novelty is ephemeral; it wears off. And yet, I'm always hopeful new ideas are waiting to be born.

Does no one remember that it sucked way before Elon? Specifically Trust & Safety, in fact. Obvs, he made it exponentially worse, but it was already a Charlie Foxtrot way back when. Lost count of how many trolls/nazis I reported that never got suspended, while accounts fighting them did. All the time
What's really baffling to me is why anyone thought it was a great idea to replicate Twitter's Trust & Safety. I remember it sucking there too, like... 😒

But IMO this post alone should warrant an account, PDS level takedown, perma ban.

For example, before the USDA took over regulating & labeling organic foods, independent industry-led organizations would certify and label with a seal, foods that met organic farming standards, and established trust with the public through transparency.
What I expect to see coming (and hope for to some extent if/when regulations across industries are stripped) is for companies to differentiate themselves by voluntarily upholding safety & quality standards.
