When you have a handful of mega platforms you could have regulators dive deep in surveying users, studying effects, setting penalties for algorithms that seems to cause mental health harm.

Downside is users may get their fix elsewhere.

I’m open to the possibility that this would be a burden imposed only on the biggest platforms and that it might lead to further fracturing. Medicine is basically a separate case.

I do think regulating the target metrics of the algorithm as opposed to the content of speech may be viable.
