I stood quiet and still atop the observation tower at Edwin B. Forsythe NWR as the sun rose over the marsh. I was rewarded with thousands of tree swallows beginning a new day. An American bittern flew in, allowing me a single digiscoped shot before disappearing in the vegetation. #sunrise #birding

Happy Canada Day! I present a short clip from a new trail on Campobello Island, NB. The trail bisects a coastal boreal bog & it is magnificent. This is a heath shrub swamp, part of the wetland complex. Rhodora, Labrador tea, & cotton grass in full bloom a few weeks ago. #canadaday #nativeplants #bog

Spent some time at Kennebunk Plains in York County, Maine. This is a Nature Conservancy property that protects several critically imperiled plant communities rare in the state. Many are fire dependent, the site is managed with controlled burns and selective mowing. #maine #nativeplants #fireecology

Spent 10 days in Maine, much needed vaca after our best girl, Boo passed away at 16.5 yrs a few days before the trip. She was always fearful of bridges for reasons unknown to us, but we would have loved to carry her across the Wiggly Bridge in York. #RIPbestgirl #missyou #maine #wigglybridge #york

Milkweed can be distracting…I noticed several generations of oleander aphids, and then I saw a syrphid fly laying eggs. I kept looking at the milkweed leaves and found some more aphids (not sure of species but darker than oleander aphids) with a syrphid fly larvae going to town. #aphids #syrphidfly
