Aw man, yeah, the subscription can be prohibitive too... FFXIV is kind of an all-or-nothing game in a way, because either it's the main game you play (and therefore you can keep up) or you get "left behind" because you've got other games/life in general going on.

See, that's heartbreaking for me because the only reason I was able to become good at the game is because I had friends who pushed me along. I get that they want to encourage player interaction, but sometimes people just want to see the story on their own, or don't have any gamer friends...
