The expedition includes anthropologists and artists who, with the support of UArctic, explore the relationships between human beings and polar regions and develop new forms of scientific storytelling.

Environments such as hydrothermal or methane emissions are being sampled , and analyzed for the presence of methane hydrates in the Barents Sea. The expedition, is led by PI G. Panieri (CNR-ISP and UiT) together with co-PI Claudio Argentino (UiT), and will conclude on November 26 in Tromsø (Norway).

Meanwhile, a second CNR–ISP team arrived at Mario Zucchelli Station (MZS) before setting off again towards Concordia Station, and the Little Dome C Field Camp.

A big novelty is the first-ever deployment of a mooring directly through a hole drilled in the sea ice. It will continuously collect data for studying changes in water masses and planktonic communities at the start of the productive season.

The first group of researchers arrived ready to begin the PNRA–PACE project — a multidisciplinary research effort that studies how microbial, phytoplanktonic, and zooplanktonic communities interact with physical and biogeochemical processes in the coastal waters of Terra Nova Bay (TNB).
