Environments such as hydrothermal or methane emissions are being sampled , and analyzed for the presence of methane hydrates in the Barents Sea. The expedition, is led by PI G. Panieri (CNR-ISP and UiT) together with co-PI Claudio Argentino (UiT), and will conclude on November 26 in Tromsø (Norway).

A big novelty is the first-ever deployment of a mooring directly through a hole drilled in the sea ice. It will continuously collect data for studying changes in water masses and planktonic communities at the start of the productive season.

The first group of researchers arrived ready to begin the PNRA–PACE project — a multidisciplinary research effort that studies how microbial, phytoplanktonic, and zooplanktonic communities interact with physical and biogeochemical processes in the coastal waters of Terra Nova Bay (TNB).
