Rose King, poet laureate of the Bellaire-Puritas Corridor, blessed me with another one of her poems today. She delivers her poems w/such sincerity, such passion. Rose is a senior who is committed to justice. I know those who taught her @ St. Stephen HS back in the day must be very proud. ✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼

I had a wonderful visit w/Rose King, poet laureate of the Bellaire-Puritas neighborhood, on Tues. She stopped by while I was volunteering in the area to present her latest poem, Priorities. The truth, passion, & sincerity in her poems moves me. I am so glad she shares them with me. #PowerToThePeople

Family history: My gramps' brothers, Earl & Donald, shared a bed on Coulfax CLE in 1913. Earl died of meningitis on 4/23, Donald on 4/29, 1913. No vaccine available then. In Nov of 1913, my great Gram has a baby girl, names her Earledonna. Earledonna contracts diphtheria in 1916, dies. Vaccines work.

So...the sunflowers by the front door/windows are absurdly high & beautiful. My front yard pumpkins now number 17! Some big, some tiny, some gourd-like...all wonderful.

Presently, 14 pumpkins on the vine in front, along w/some incredibly tall-not yet opened- sunflowers & other native plants in front of the house. I liked the view of the hibiscus & black-eyed susans by the driveway.

So, my casual pumpkin planting program one again has yielded a nice crop (so far)...

@smackbrl.bsky.social has done an amazing job of turning our humble little yard into a native plant paradise. I am continually amazed @ the variety of plants & pollinators in the yard. My contributions to the yard(elderberries & pumpkins) are minimal. Shelley channels "Big Lou", her late father.

My wife, @smackbrl.bsky.social, possesses some remarkable talents. With both of us being...frugal...her sewing skills saved us $$$ by sewing Marine vinyl to create a durable cover for our (very) old pontoon boat seats! (Bonus photo: a nice view of Leesville Lake)

My pumpkin plants are looking beautiful! For the past 7 years all @smackbrl.bsky.social & I do is to set a few uncarved pumpkins on the edge of our front space in the fall & let them decompose naturally. Every year--pumpkin plants in the summer. No digging or prep @ all. Last year, 9 nice pumpkins!

Cleveland has great local children's programming. Barnaby & Woodrow the Woodsman was on TV-3, Franz the Toymaker was on TV-8, & Captain Penny on TV-5. Jungle Larry, Pooch Parade, & others would drop by to visit & teach. It was a glorious time to be a kid.
