Plans to increase the Early Years Pupil Premium in areas of greatest need are welcome, as are plans to improve outcomes for children from low-income households. But right now, these are just vague promises with no firm timings.

The Government must act now.

The disadvantage gap at age five has widened to 4.7 months, according to the Education Policy Institute while the number of two-year-olds registered for the disadvantaged early years entitlements is down by 18% (DfE).
