New project:
Heatwave-driven rewiring of coastal food webs, led by @skortsch.bsky.social, had a productive kick-off meeting at @tvarminne.bsky.social.
They examine how marine heatwaves reshape food webs by integrating experiments, molecular tools, and food web modeling.

🚨 New Publication!! 🚨

The study by @cmgustafsson.bsky.social and collaborators from UWA found that the main biodiversity mechanism driving seagrass biomass stock is through dominance and co-existing species that show similarity in their functional traits.
Functional traits are moderate predictors of above‐ and below‐ground biomass in multispecies seagrass habitats

Coastal zones are identified as important natural carbon sinks globally, but in brackish environments like the Baltic Sea, knowledge of coastal carbon sequestration is limited.

This new study shows that shallow and partly enclosed Baltic bays are significant sinks for carbon and nutrients.

Our researchers are exploring patterns in greenhouse gas emissions along the NZ coastline! Preliminary results agree with the findings from the Baltic Sea that stressed and degraded coastal ecosystems become net emitters of GHG:s, and highlights the importance of proper management of coastal areas.
