Quick question: the 7+ grades look comparable to other subjects, to what extent is there evidence/do you think this is because enough schools still select for CS GCSE (even soft selection).

Loved this, thanks for pulling it all together. Those of us at the chalk face have known for years how hard CS GCSE is but this is a great summary.

I was always taught that coding was writing code but programming was the whole process including problem analysis, design etc. The reason students struggle with the subject is so many resources focus on coding rather than programming.
