This reality is not hopeless; it's just harder.

Oh Aoife, I feel this.
My first go round with menopause-like symptoms (medically induced for cancer treatment) felt so much easier than this official ridiculousness.
Sleep is elusive, if at all
Frozen shoulder (x2)
Random pains and itchiness
Cholesterol & inflammation markers raging...

Gah 😑

We specialize in bringing patient voices to research; we're awesome at connecting dots btwn research & clinical care; we excel at amplifying voices & pushing for equitable access to quality care; we're all about quality-of-life.
And yes, we suck at selfies!

Many butts in seats for "When the Physician Becomes the Patient" by Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, AMA president who was diagnosed with a large temporal lobe tumor in 2024. #ASTRO25

pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic, and behavioral interventions for physical or mental disease or disorder, prophylaxis, diagnosis, therapy or treatment, drug and pharmaceutical development and testing."

Essentially most of the things that study health & wellness for individuals & public health 😑

epidemiological and medical behavioral studies, outcomes research (interventions, treatment, or therapies), health services research, 2/3

Indeed but the "narrow window" is, in large part, a minor issue compared to what is now ineligble for NSF grant funding:

"Ineligible areas of graduate study include public health, global health, clinical practice, clinical psychology, counseling, social work, patient-oriented research, 1/?

Adore you, friend 💗 Thank you for sneaking some coffee time with me at #ASTRO25

Well, literally just passed Spiderman walking down 3rd Street toward Howard so, yep, everyone should get some SF flavor! #ASTRO25

Interesting to see audience answers to "What's the biggest barrier you face in addressing health disparities at work?"
#ASTRO25 #CanSky
Curious what others, not in the room, believe are the barriers

In #ASTRO25 session, hearing the phrase, "we need to navigate people" in a session. Finding this phrasing paternalistic. Many individuals want the tools (info & access) to navigate their own experience. Dont tell us what to do, give us our options and risk/benefit profile.

Particularly interesting point in light of the profound SE/challenges many individuals face with endocrine therapy. Discussant cautions, "more long term follow-up needed"

Kicking off Day 2 (or official Day 1) of #ASTRO25 w/ "Breast Science" session. AKA a session highlighting significant breast-related presentations that will be shared at the @astro-org.bsky.social meeting
Theme seems to be "right-sizing" treatments (although presenter still using term de-escalation)
coffeemommy.bsky.social
Is he presenting? Happy to be a hype machine for his research! #ASTRO25

Forgot to take pics during the economics preso and now learning about Extranodal Marginal Zone Lymphoma and associated conditions
Again, learning all kinds of new things here that I did NOT expect to learn at a Radiation Oncology meeting! #ASTRO25

And, while I didn't expect a liquid biopsy presentation in a radiology meeting, I'm totally here for it! #ASTRO25

First up on Day 1
Randomized control trial (RCT) for prophylactic rads for ASYMPTOMATIC bone mets showed some interesting results. Will now be moving to Phase 3 study and power for OS benefit analysis

Looking forward to learning "all the things" at my first @astro-org.bsky.social annual meeting. Started off on the right note when the woman at registration said, "Thank you for your advocacy. Go patient advocates!" and literally punched the air! 🥹 #ASTRO25

Never selfish to need a hug 💗 You deserve hugs

Looking forward to this conversation on Thursday.
Ultimately, we want to strengthen the role of advocates in the oncology space — ensuring that individuals' lived experiences and professional expertise can help shape the future of research and healthcare. #CanSky #OncSky

Patient advocates are generally underutilized in research and definitely under compensated - this will be a topic of discussion and exploration in our next general meeting on September 11th 10amPT/1pmET - invites should be in your inboxes!

For those individuals who somehow remain confused or offended by the term "white privilege" - THIS ⬇️

If someone "looks Latino" the government can detain them.
White people don't have to worry about that and THAT lack of concern is a "privilege" in this country today.

BREAKING: By an apparent 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court halts an injunction that had prevented immigration agents from racially profiling Latinos in central California.

Sotomayor, dissenting, says the decision is "unconscionably irreconcilable with our nation's constitutional guarantees."

For those dealing with the treatment-induced, menopause-y side effects of treatment for HR+ breast cancer like hot flashes and REALLY crappy sleep, this is a very interesting (and hopeful!) study

Sending you some love, Cheryl. "Well-tolerated" as defined by the research & clinical community, does NOT mean that it is either managable or tolerable in our day to day lives.
I had a helluva time on Tamoxifen - thank you for speaking up so others know that they're not alone
